Knee advice

MRI= partially torn mcl sprained knee.

I hurt it 3 weeks ago, DOC says no surgery needed, 3 more weeks until rehab starts. Any advice for a stronger recovery. I'm currently walking with a slight limp. he also gave me a monster brace w/ hinges.

 
not hinges man, really? it's got hinges? i've never seen such a crazy contraption!

but anyways... yeah, ice it for 20 minutes, then heat it for 20, and keep alternating like that whenever you find it really sore, or your just sitting around doing nothing. it really helps

...stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

ya i had a hinged brace for my sprained mcl. really the quickest way to get better is go to the rahab and make sure you do exactly what they tell you. its easy to slip, but stick by their conditioning and it will heal up in no time.

why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice?
 
I would not suggest using heat. that dilates the blood vessels, causing more bleeding and swelling. heat works well for muscles but not ligaments. ice for 20 mins of every hour. and yes follow your doctor's directions.

also I would have thought physio/rehab would start earlier than in 3 weeks. i went to physio 3 days after my acl surgery. I'd check with your doctor. if he says to wait, ask him if you should do some range of motion exercises where you just bend and straighten your knee gently a few times a day to make sure the scar tissue doesn't lock it or restrict movement too much.
