Making this thread so updates can be tossed out at any point in the season on everything from park updates, to general conditions updates. Hopefully it will eventually get a sticky, eventually.

As for current updates. KB will be following the same opening plan as they did last year with snowmaking starting on Coal Chute and spreading from there. The snowmakers are setup on Coal Chute already.

Keep in mind they were open just a few days after HV last year before being shut down by the heat-wave that didn't stop. Hopefully we will see them get a quick opening this year too, complete with gaper dodging on a hectic Coal Chute!

I've got to admit that a box setup would help the congestion and tension of opening weekend on one trail as well.

It would be pretty cool if KB was actually open while I am home this Christmas. With some sort of grind bar or slider. Maybe even some sort of jumping surface. All this depends on Mommy Nature though, so be nice to her.

Yeah. We all need to make sure we tell mommy nature that we love her too.

Ugh, All I want is a normal WNY winter. We haven't had a normal WNY winter is so long.

i cant remember that far back, but i know that 00-01, 02-03, & 03-04 all seemed to start in early dec and stay consistent all the way to late march. the past 3 winters all have have been rain-tastic in Jan

I drove by today, and noticed one thing.

Snowmkaers on Coal Chute, which I noticed already, and the ONLY other place where snowmakers are except for the crossover to the main lodge, is the park. There are a few of the big fan guns setup in the park already.

So it looks like openng on CoalChute, and then getting the park going as soon as possible.

Hey, when I drove by last Thursday, I noticed that the Buffalo Ski whatever had some snow on it, like a heavy frost, but it covered most of it and KB had pretty much nothing. What's the deal mother nature?! haha

If you tried to get your pass Saturday you could not as the pass cards were not here. They are now and the ticket center is open 9-5 weekdays and Sat. from 10-4. Boarder/Skier cross with features on Moment of Truth is a growing possibility this season!

I'll be by on Friday afternoon to pick mine up so i don't have to wait in the line which is insanity on opening day.

And yay for Moment of Truth as a skiercross course. It's a fun trail to mach down. Had a dream about a nasty bail on that trail last year.

It was groomed fresh, closed, and 6 inches of blower powder was sitting on it. Needless to say we all got a little excited at the prospect of fresh and ducked the ropes. I know I know. tsk tsk. It was incredible. Until We hit the steep part and we were straightlining it out to the bottom, and I aired one bump and caught the upslope of the next and exploded. I scorpioned for a good 100 feet down the hill, laughing my ass off the whole time. One of the best runs of the season for sure.

All fictional of course! :P

Last spring when the kb blog was up and running, there was a

post which explained that kb would try to set up an alternative contest

series. With the success of the race

course for the snowboarders on crazy8’s, kb would try to have one for skiers as

well as maybe a ski jump contest to see who could jump the farthest and a

boarder/skier cross through the park.

I don’t know how well the long jump would work seeing as

though some big guy in a speed suit with 200+ skis would obviously pick up a

lot more speed than most 13yr old snowboards, but I still would be interested

in these soft of events.

Also, does anyone remember when the park was over on twister

and kb ran a weekly series of events which closed the park down on the weekends. Those events were before my time, but I recall reading

on the site about how they had pro skiers come down and judge the finals.

Sweet little board edit going.

I'd love to see a skier edit. I'm still waiting to see some of Bangor's pics, but from what he told me, he wasn't happy with the lighting he had going on.

Yeah not overly thrilled with the shots but it's early season so fuck it, I posted a comment on the article. Check 'em out.

Nice update on the KB site. The simple color change really freshened the whole site up and made it look much less ghetto.

Just a small suggestion.

Under the snow report, maybe consider making a Snowfall Total for the season column and update it as you update the new snow-column. It'd be interesting to see how much snow has fallen for that season.

I can work on a total snowfall, it allways seemed to me that with the freeze thaw cycle in WNY and the dependence on manmade snow that total natural snowfall could be deceptive. Either, Yes, we got 40 inches in late november storm, but it all melted before Christmas and it has been 50 degrees with rain with 2 trails open , or 12 inches natural snowfall, cold snap for three weeks, 85% open with great groomed conditions. I am going to see if I get a snowmaking progresss map up so we can see where the guns are are where they may be going next as we start to open up different areas. Thanks on the color change, that and the font and spacing change on the Menu help out a bunch. The hoses are out with the guns now, if the temps drop later in the week we should have a green light to let em' rip.

Snowmaking progress map would be awesome. I'm there all the time during the winter, but to others, it'd be cool.

Awesome to hear about the snowmaking. And if I recall, last year KB got open very quickly (before needing to shut down again from the rain) with Coal Chute.

Stay positive!

Ahh, so that's why I saw 4-wheeler tracks in the snow to the 'makers when I picked up my pass Saturday afternoon.

It was so cold this morning. Very awesome to feel finally.

Bummer that rain is in the forecast though this week with it getting close to 50 again.

I know this isnt Kb related but ya know whats frustrating. Seeing HV continue to kick back the rail jam from Nov. 23 to december something.....shennanigans

yea, but we're supposed to get dumped on next weekend I hear. Saturday night, a bunch of lake effect I think I heard.

Stay positive guys. We'll get some snow soon, and actually the weather for the next few days looks a LOT less bleak then it did before.

I think HV sandbagged snowmaking this weekend due to the early forecasts showing a ton of rain for 3 days straight with highs near the 50s.

I'd like to see some photos of KB's snowmaking and see if they were able to get any big piles made? It'd be awesome if KB was open this weekend.

:)

I drove by kb today, From 240 there are some decent looking piles. I would of stopped and taken some crappy phone pics but I was hungry for pizza glen. The tower gun between coal chute and holly quad put out a nice amount, the fan guns up on coal chute had piles of maybe 2-3 feet at their highest.

the forecast for this week is looking a lot better. Looks like snowmaking could be possible overnights from tuesday night on. I'm sure it will thaw tomorrow but the ground was still nice and frozen out of direct sunlight at sprague brook today too.

They made a good amount of snow on Coal Chute this weekend, I would guess that with another 24 to 36 hours of cold air it would have been enough to open. Looks like another cold air mass is on the way and with it a better chance for significant lake effect. I would not rule out this weekend, but suspect it will be one more week. Who knows, the snow on coal chute was left in big piles and should hold up fairly well to the warm air and rain early this week. See for self here... http://kbski.broker1suite.com/aspx/default.aspx

looking good, thanks for the pics. I was surprised to see some fresh snow this morning on my drive through the hills.

Yeah, it stayed cold down here for a period of time last night and it snowed and freezing rained before turning to rain this morning.

Looks like we're getting some soaking rain today, but it's still chilly out, and turning to snow overnight. The man-made tends to hold-up much better to rain and warmer weather than natural due to it's density.

And looks like snowmaking might be able to resume Thursday night?

Saw the snow on the hills from the top of Center Rd this afternoon. Looked like there was a lot actually.

Wonder if they will be making snow tonight with the lows being in the low 20s overnight. Also crossing my fingers for HEAVY lake effect on Thursday night and Friday.

"SIGNIFICANT LAKE EFFECT SNOW IS POSSIBLE FROM LATE THURSDAY

AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY AS MUCH COLDER AIR FILTERS INTO THE REGION.

WHILE IT REMAINS TOO EARLY TO BE SPECIFIC ON EXACT LOCATION OR

INTENSITY...FORECAST WIND DIRECTION APPEARS TO FAVOR AREAS FROM SKI

COUNTRY INTO THE WESTERN SOUTHERN TIER...BUT THE LAKE EFFECT SNOW

MAY OCCASIONALLY DRIFT INTO THE MORE DISTANT SOUTHERN SUBURBS OF

BUFFALO AS WELL.

THERE IS A CHANCE OF A MORE WIDESPREAD SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL FROM

SUNDAY AFTERNOON INTO MONDAY AS A LARGE STORM SYSTEM MOVES OUT OF

THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND UP THE EASTERN SEABOARD. THERE IS A HIGH

DEGREE OF UNCERTAINTY WITH THE TRACK OF THIS SYSTEM GIVEN THE TIME

RANGE."

Make some sacrifices and say your prayers guys.

Anyone here have any info about a rail jam at Fredonia on

the 2nd. If holiday or KB

were to open this weekend I would definitely go to either one of those, but if

not I may head to Fredonia, that is if work does not get in my way.

That's the best I could do, don't know if there's a larger format anywhere. That was posted over on Holidayvalleyforums.com

Wet bulb temperatures are around 26-27 degrees right now. Snowmaking could be happening. I hope it happens tonite for sure.

I'm such a weather nerd.

That rail jam is so exciting...It was something I tried to get going last year while I was still going there..Is anyone heading down for it? I know me and my bros will prob be there.

yea unfortunately it is...I guess its only for "Shop Pros" I talked to one of the girls helping out....terribly unfortunate...I might be there anyways.

Sucks.

It still seems too early to tell for a weekend opening. I think the deciding factor will be natural snowfall tomorrow and Friday.

thats strange, why would they then advertise the $5 entry, registration, and start times on the poster.

in a semi-related note when i went to the kb swap for the rail jam i could not find the registration, i asked g bromley in the shop and he said that he thought it might be snowboard only. Then, when the massive line formed i asked i few snowboard kids i knew what was up and they said they were positive that it was snowboard only. Not until i asked at the counter did the girl show me the list with 3 skier names on it.

there is tons of misinformation on this jam, if you are at all interested in going it seems like phatman has the true answers, I'd call them.

Yea, that jam really didn't have any classes. You just kind of went off the rail, impressed kids and i guess you elected yourself to win, skiers just skied, and won a bit. unorganized as hell.

yay, ive already been skiing this season! gore was open when i went home for thanksgiving so i got some turns in then. My lil bro and friends at community colleges have already been to mt snow like 3 times, and Whiteface. I didnt bring my skis back with me though, so I wont be skiing out here until mid january, but i should be out almost every tues-fri and probably on weekends too.

Damn. Didn't get anything really yesterday. Major let-down from the forecasted 3-6 inches.

Looks like no-go this weekend. Wonder about HV for Sunday?

I hope, it's been really cold recently, there should be mass amounts of snow everywhere. This morning it was cold enough to accumulate, not because of heavy snowfall, just because it was too cold to melt, which was nice seeing a really really thin layer of fluffy stuff.

Plus my passes start working tomorrow so they better open soon!
