Kiss threatens Line skis

The 80's rock band Kiss has recently taken Line to court over a dispute on one the graphics Line used on its Anthem ski. The case could cost Line alot of money and might threaten its financial stability.

The graphic in dispute was an image of a Kiss rocker on the tip of the anthem ski. Line failed to ask the band promission for using its image, and is now dealing with the consequences in court.

not all people do. just heard about it today and i thought it was pretty ironic that shity band could ruin line.

K2 won't be defeated by KISS(in overall financial stablilty), they could pay damages or just changed up the skis topsheet. In turn LINE can't be brought down by this.

Kiss should be proud because Line thinks they are cool enough to get on their ski graphic. C'mon Gene.

Kiss employs a team of lawyers whose only job is to seek out usages of the band and charge people if the images were not sanctioned. Stupid has-beens who only want to make more money. Ironically, if K2 had not picked up Line, Line might have gone under for this.

Wow, KISS has some problems with skiing eh? Remember that story in skeeze about the planned K2 photo shoot, with the letters SKIS in stead of KISS. They ended up not doing it cause they ran into issues with the copy writing. KISS has it out for skiing!

all you people saying that KISS is gay or whatever for doing this need to realize LINE had no right to use a trademarked image. How would you like it if someone used your image without your permission to something... and before you get all uppity by saying "Duuuuude, I'd be cool with it, people would see me everywhere", think about the possibility that your image was used for like stupid like tampons or something, would you be all excited about that? I hardly think so.

well, I think that Lines's case is that the graphic is a drawing. It was not a photo of the guy, nor are there really any indications that it is supposed to be him, other than mild resemblence (they did not use his name, the name KISS, or any other members of KISS). It is just a guy with makeup on, and the band says it looks too much like him. Could have been a coincidence.

this doesnt help but:

dude fuckin kiss line made skiing what it is today and kiss is just a bunch of overly makeuped hairband musicians

ya, im mean frig you had your time you were a legacy, and still are and your still rich so take a chill pill.

and there luky that line even thinks thewre gud enough to be put on there skis.

i say we put a boycott on their shit, problem is noone buys their shit...

and jus to add...theres a figure on the ski who has a striking resemblence to Axel Rose...and u dont seem him suing...so fuck KISS, yay GnR!!

i heard KISS makes more money in merchandise in one year than they do in five in concert tickets. It's easy to see why KISS would like tp protect their copyrights.

I can't believe people would actually argue with what KISS is doing. I mean, i realize you all love skiing (me included) but when it comes down to it, i love my basic rights too. Line is unfairly using something which these guys rely on for their livelyhood. KISS is very heavily dependent on their products and image, so it just makes sense that they try and protect themselves from shit like this.

irregardless of whether it's a drawing or not, I'm pretty sure all of those individuals on that image have been inspired by real 70s rock stars, KISS included. I guess I would have to see a larger image of what's on the ski to make any conclusions, but based upong what you state, that would be like me drawing Mario from Super Mario Bros and making his jump suit orange or purple and then claiming it wasn't Mario even though there is a slight resemblance.

Kiss figures they can make more money off the copyright suit settlement than they could with the graphic introducing their shitty 70/80s hair metal band to a younger generation that doesn't give a shit about the band but might be into banging Gene Simmons' daughter.

For what it's worth, a band full of guys who wear make-up seems super homo-erotic to me, but hey, to each their own, I guess.

Kiss hires the best lawyors to watch this stuff that is why K2 abandoned the Kiss marketing shot. but K2 has already gone to court with two bands recently, they are well practiced.

Hey, what do all the bands who've sued so far have in common? They're all old, boring, past their prime, and arguably shitty in the first place.

I don't see Public Enemy suing...yet?

^ i agree so much...its basically advertisement for kiss..but if line was going to use it..they should have gotten permission..somebody on their part didnt hold their own..but kiss is gay...i havent seen the picture up close but could it just be a look a like?..its not like it says kiss all over it does it?

You guys are idiots. It's not about advertisement for KISS. It's a simple case of using a copyrighted/trademarked icon without permission for profit. It's plain and simple. Selling their icons and likeliness pays them, it is a business. Line tried to get away with stealing the icon and got caught and now they will have to pay some sort of settlement that is larger than what they would have paid to accquire licensing rights.

hahaha, at the time that's the only comparison I could make to the line situation. So I guess I did. Shame on me.

I hate KISS as much as the next guy... but you can't blame the actual BAND. If there is any truth to this, I'm sure it is not the BAND that will sue Line. In fact, I'm positive it would be the record label. KISS may have absolutely no problem with the graphics, and they may have no interest in generating the extra cash by forcing K2 to kick back a certain portion of it's Anthem sales. This doesn't mean that the graphics have gotten the go-ahead. Record labels are the greedy bastards, and I'm quite certain that a dispute such as this one would be fall directly into the hands of the KISS's record company rather than the band itself.
