Can someone explain to me why a double kink is called a quad kink in skiing? I come from a rollerblading background and we always refer to a single kink (down flat down) as simply kink rail. Double kink (down flat down flat down). Triple kink (down flat down flat down flat down). For the most part anytime theres a kink in the rail (flat section) you count that as one. I constantly see captions for tricks that say quad kink rail when its a double kink. I realize we all have different names for tricks... Just wondering!?
 
For every transission one kink more.

Flat-down -> kink

Down-flat-down -> double kink

Down-flat-down-flat -> tripple kink

Down-flat-down-flat-down -> quad kink

And so on...

Cant see ur problem?!
 
Skiing and snowboarding have it right as pointed out above. As usual rollerblading is just completely wrong in every way

Do you consider a flat down rail the same as a flat rail or something?
 
Down flat is simply that. A down to flat. Most street (urban) handrails start on a downslope so it doesnt become a kink rail until it kinks flat.

What about when it switches back to down, is that not a kink as well?

A flat down flat would be called a flat down flat. If it went flat down flat down it'd be considered a flat to kink rail

It would still be a single kink but if you were to describe it to another rollerblader you'd word it as "theres a flat section then single kink
 
^exactly, if that's really how blading does the terminology that's just them being stupid.

the word kink has been around for hundreds of years, and it means a sharp twist or changing of direction. simple as that. a flat is a flat, no idea why someone would choose to refer to a straight piece of rail as a "kink." there's no benefit to it at all
