Kinda cool reason why freestyle skiing being a niche sport is awesome

Honestly one reason i love freestyle skiing being a niche sport is, and im sure i'll get flack for it, but the interaction with athletes on instagram. Like, it's pretty fucking cool asking Antti Ollila what he's riding and he responds, or commenting on Henrik's post and he favorites or responds. Just saying, usually wont fuckin happen with most mainstream sports (hey if you get responses from LeBron or Odell Beckham, thats wild, same with Gus Kensworthy!) but getting an olympic athlete to like your goofy comment is kinda neat.

So then the opposite is true of what you stated as your first point

skiing got too big for it’s own good. I have as much of a chance having a phone call with tiger woods ex girlfriend ski racer or Lara Gut as I do with Tom Wallisch and that chance is ZERO

but hey might as well use the same technique for your favourite porn stars too

hey, friend, i acknowledged the opposition in my initial point (inherent silliness). additionally, thats why i said "kinda". Consequently, im pretty sure there's a 33% chance any girl you talk to in the world is tiger woods' ex-girlfriend, dude slays. FURTHERMORE all my favorite skiers are my favorite pornstars case and point (gus included lmao). So you and the 3 SkiGuys before you can frig off Lahey.

Okay and we’re supposed to pretend you ever give some chicken to any thots you didn’t pay for ???

And dont forget this site. Pretty cool to come to a site and get a chance to ask a pro a question and they answer it let alone have them interact in some of the threads. I have met some great people from this site and I hope to meet more of you.

I actually talked to Wallisch once on the phone. Super cool dude, didn't even realize it was him at first, and then I heard the voice and I was like, wait a sec, are you the skier Tom Wallisch? He was super cool and stoked that I loved watching him ski and just said he was blessed to have the career he did.

I saw Tom Wallisch at a bar last winter and drunkenly called him Tammy Wamsticks by mistake and he said what up and shook my hand.

hey man i tried to hunt down henrik, i went to sweden and barked uncontrollably. no dice, so this is the closest i can get.

He's a friendly dog, he just gets excited. Approach with food and some form of oversized wutang shirt to let him know you're okay.

Yeah this, I haven't seen it work like it does here in any other community. Real conversation with big name skiers, elsewhere it's PR drivel or nothin' at all.

i agree op.

i love it when somebody you admire is down to earth enough to talk to you. I mean im dolan so of course everybody talks to me but I think even if i was a Metrochadsexual incel they would still respond.

my favorite dj kris menace responded to me on fb messenger which i thought was cool. I didn't even tell him i was of german descent which he wouldve thought was cool bc he is from germany.

I do think one cool thing about skiing is that pro athletes, often, are skiing right where we are. Whether it's in the park or on the same lift. Wallisch mentioned this in his podcast with Dumont and I thought it was interesting. He said, ant December day, if a kid wants to meet me, just go to the PC park and there's a good chance they could ride the lift up with him.

When I used to ski Roundtop in high school the early 2000s, we used to see the Roundtop Riders up there all the time. We thought of them as rivals, even though we were not at all on the same level. Stepp was probably the best at the time, only really knew of him and maybe Warnick. Ran into this guy Tom on top of a jump line, I remember he had super baggy pants and huge headphones lol. Exchanged a few words, he was a nice guy, which was weird because most of them were pretty cocky (well mostly Stepp) He did a few sweet switch 5s and 7s, which at the time was pretty wild. Found out later that was Wallisch once he started to blow up. I think its funny their website is actually still live at http://www.roundtopriders.com/.

Damn! That's a cool find!

I wonder who has been paying the domain fee all these years, not that it's expensive but that's fucking rad haha

Seen wallisch with random kids before up there, sick to see him getting the youth, I’ve met and befriended some pros in my life but to ski with Wallisch might be a must before I quit skiing park city. My best friend use to be Kyle deckers intern so he was somewhat friends with wallisch, has his #, and old cruiser bike even, what’s crazy is in HS at the Fenway big air we saw him in a restaurant afterwards and introduced ourselves, little did my friend know the following year he’d be hanging with Tom & the GC crew occasionally. Made sure to introduce myself solo last year just cause my friend was my roommate so we had the mutual connect, good guy, good skier.

damn son - I grew up skiing roundtop since i was 5 years old, wonder how many times I passed by him unknowingly

To think that we have gotten personal responses from multiple pros in the NS AMAs is crazy. It is still mind boggling to me that so many pros have come onto here to answer our questions. Never really occurred to me how accessible everyone is in this pretty niche community.

One time we were in line for a bar in Whistler and my buddy called out jossi Wells and said hes a better skier than jossi ever will be. Jossi was pretty stoked and came over and smoked a ciggy and bullshitted with us while we waited. Super cool dude!

Actually it’s slowly killing our sport ?

Lol @all the bitter downvotes

Gus blocked me on Instagram after I took a pic with him on the chair when I was like 12 and tagged him... that was pretty rad

I met Tanner Hall at the Kelowna airport. Super chill dude, told him I was a big fan of his work. In reality I idolized the guy in the early 2000’s. We talked about how dope the skiing is in British Columbia. It really made my day.

I skied with Trace Cook for a day; great experience to ride with someone who kills it everyday. He invites us all to send a line in front of his cameraman.

Riding with Mike Kinrade was weird; couldnt really hold a conversation with the guy... he didnt say much

I think at the core tanner is a cool guy, but sometimes he acts kind of like a “look at me im awesome” kind of brat. Like when he broke his ankles he kind of made himself look ridiculous by screaming “ankles are broken! I got broken ankles ahhh!”. Like the way he responds to heat of the moment things like that is kind of degenerate. And he has thrown tantrums for getting kicked out of bars and shit like that. And the whole ebonics thing made him look stupid. You cant get any whiter than a pale skin, gap tooth, blond hair montana native, yet tanner wanted everybody to know that he was cooler than anybody because he was black at heart.

i think hes old enough now to see the folly in his ways; i ran into him in summit and he is a friendly energetic guy when it comes down to it.

im sure now that hes dropped the baggage he would be a fun person to hang out with.
