Killington's Park

so we had the US Snowboarding Grand Prix at killy this weekend and because our park is so shitty another company came in and re-built the halfpipe completely and made a dope slopestyle course ( 4 jump line around 40-50) , but the problem is that the slope course is on a major trail so they are knocking it down on tuesday. this means that the best jump line killington has ever had will be knocked down after only being up for a week - so after all the time and effort put into the course it will not even be able to be enjoyed by anyone except for competitors - its not like people will not come to killington because lower Bear Claw has jumps on it, the park staff could have fought to keep it up for at least next weekend for the locals to hit after suffering with 20 footers all year, even if they made smaller lips it would be better than nothing because the landings are long making them safer than any of their other jumps

but i hear it will be open for "filming" on Monday only so that could mean its open to the public or just that there is a private film shoot, either way i'm back home so i will never be able to even get a chance at them

I heard about that, I didn't know they brought another company in though! TWA said to poach em, for anyone up there I'd go with that plan haha.

i heard killington just didn't throw down as hard this year, good thing mount snow has put up a decent park as well as stratton and stowe

If i could be there Monday I would defiantly get my poach on, fuck killington, new management sucks and their parks are horrendous. It honestly wouldn't even be a big deal to leave that open as a park for the rest of the season. All you have to do is fence it off above the viper pit and put a park sign on it it could filter all the joeys down lower wildfire. But obviously no one at that resort had the brain to think of that. I hope the new owners go bankrupt just like asc and maybe the mountain will get sold to someone who doesn't suck as much.

yeh good idea except all putting a park sign would do is attract more fucks to go make turns down the landings and they would be m ogle fields by 10 o'clock.

and the other company was not hired by killington they have a contract with the grand prix to build the shit. but the killington park groomers helped build it.

2 guys cant build a whole pipe and slope in less then a week.

suffering 20 footers? were have you been riding timberline? dream maker is SO much better then last yr

"...yes 90% of the features are kinda made and set up for snowboarders..."

case in point, me eating shit on that log jib they set up. damn it..

yeah it seems like they are putting in more effort than last year and some of the jibs are cool but they are built horribly with no lip until there is a comp or rail jam then it is taken out after, and all are snowboard friendly. I like the park crew but the management is terrible and there is no one on the crew with much knowledge of building jumps and pipe. The pipe before the new company came in was the worst pipe i have ever seen and they still try to put 20+ foot walls on it making it even worse. The last jump in dream maker is the biggest and best jump i have seen and it couldn't be any bigger than 25 and thats pushing it, the problem with their jumps other than the size is that the landings like 10 feet making them more dangerous than correctly built 40 footers.

i wanted to hit those jumps sooo bad all weekend- but the rail lines they have on dream maker are pretty fun. park crew is doing an awesome job this season

25 feet ? are you serious? no one has any idea how to build jumps or pipe? i invite you to try to build a jump. and bring a tape measure with you or think about what you are saying 10 foot landings ? rail pads have longer then ten foot landings. go look at rails/boxes on timberline those are 12 feet you trying to tell me are landings are shorter then those rails. um no.

killington may be snowboard friendly but it just forces us to get creative with the features.make us better.

just fyi the head park groomer is a skiier.

ok i really don't want to bump this thread but i forgot about it and when i checked back i have 2 guys hating on me so... i was exaggerating about the 10 foot landings but if you looked at the slope jumps their the landings were 60/70 feet compared to lets say 25/30 for the Dream Maker park (i'm not perfect with this stuff so just bear with me) - when i went up last weekend after nursing a back injury for 3 weeks i was really impressed with what they had done, it was possible to spin onto the rails without gaping down to the end (fyi, i didn't) - the landings for the upper park were still small but the pipe jump was sick on sunday after moving it back 10 feet it seemed from where they had it before, i had no overshooting problems and was able to take it as far down as needed, sickest killy jump since the bottom at wildfire (still think second to last 2 in DM could be much bigger gaps)

and TWA i like the park crew they are usually really nice and mean well - but as an example we had eastern championships at killy a month ago and they said it would be 2 rails and 2 prob 30+ foot jumps on Grizzly the week before the comp, then day of comp we show up and find out its on bear trap with a legit under 10 footer to a 20 to the final jump (25?) because they didn't build another jump in front of the pipe jump (either due to front office stuff or laziness) no one took it seriously it was a joke - i just get disappointed because i know killy's potential it could be the top park in the east if they wanted - remember when it was on wildfire and the skiercross was on dreammaker with rollers the size of the jumps now?

Again as in every year i have skied killy i have hope for next year with this new high speed quad and extended park. I don't think i can handle another disappointment.

well good to see your not just a hater, but just to help you with your distances the grand prix landings measud out to about 156' the smallest to182' or somethign on the bigest. its hard to judge this if you have nothing to compare to but every thing seams a shitload smaller when your out side . just look at the pipe thats 450 feet and its not that long. another thing to compare to is the gold down bar, its 36'  the break over its no for springloaded rail jam is about 50' and it looks small.
