Yeah but the first one had more swords swinging, arms getting chopped off, and tops of heads being severed.

Watched both back to back yesterday. It was a bit of an odd transition... but the best qualities of the 2nd were emphasized, I think. I still find the ending just... odd. The lioness has regained her cub, and all is right in the jungle? Oooooookkkkkk...

And the five point palm exploding heart technique was such vintage kung-fu movie, just like those camera zooms on Pai Mei. The fact that you actually have to take 5 steps (rather than wait the time it takes to take 5 steps or something) to die is perfect.

The reason she kiled bill with the five point exploding heart technique was because she had her daughter back. Her main drive for vengance came from the loss of her daughter, but now that she was alive she was not so ruthless. Regardless, she still had to kill bill due to his actions and the fact that he would kill her if she did not kill him. Her last move of was one that showed that she was greater then bill because she was taught the technique, but it was not bloody due to her daughter. She was not just a woman who lost her child but a mother, she could not be as savage as she once was, but the bottom line still was there, she had to kill bill.

QT planned out this move, and while it might spawn an negative reaction it is really quite brilliant, it shows the growth and transition that is undergone in the bride, if she had just sliced bill up she would have been a static charecter, and that would have been poor on QT's part. While I was expecting an epic scene between the two, the scene in place is more rewarding in retrospect.

ecfreeski, you're looking at it the wrong way. it's not supposed to be realistic in any way, it's a big homage to old westerns and kung fu flicks.

^well then they needed to take out the moral content ^^he was tlaking about. if they were going for a kung fu type movie, theynshould have just beaten the lving shit out of each other and had a big bloody show down like the first one. it was not a thinking movie, so why would they make the end that way?

quentin doesn't make mindless crap. morality exists in that movie because the story is of value to him, and he wants it to matter to others as well. look, vol. 1 was quentin saying 'look what i can do bitches' and vol. 2 is him saying, 'but i can also make a worthwhile movie, thats much more than flashy precision mixed media/genres'

you should be so lucky as to be reading this.

Look, the argument as to whether there's 'deep content' depends on what level you watch the movie at. It does quite well at the superficial level, but when you look for reasons for why everything is done the way it is, you'll find they're not only there, but really quite compelling (particularly the way the segment in Tokyo is shot in pt 1). There are some absolutely brilliant monologues in pt 2; the Superman speech was great. Even the small things you might not notice have meaning. Did anyone else pick up on the incredible irony of Bill fixing a ham sandwich for his little daughter, using a knife that looks like it's meant for slaughtering cattle? The dimension to his character (still better developed because he was a mystery figure for so long, a technique that was used completely differently for B Kiddo) was incredible... how can you not be sympathetic with the guy? It was a brilliantly executed film that is too quickly dismissed by those who don't or can't look closely enough to appreciate the nuances.

The scene in Tokyo in Vol.1 was definately amazing. From the chaos inside when she's fighting the 88's to the serenity of the snow covered garden it just gets better every time you see it.

thought vol. 1 was sick...but when I watched vol. 2 I just couldn't get into it...I think if both are watched together, like one whole movie - it's probably one of the best all-time. Tarantino should have left it as one entire movie, rather than two...but that's just me.

^Wow.

Yeah anyway, it's really a fantastic step that you wait and wait and wait a bit longer to see Bill diced up and an ultimate clash to be seen. Then he's just....David Carradine. He's in the damn movie(s) for like 20 minutes tops and steals the screen. When he tells her WHY he tried to kill her, it all seems....justified. He just got a bit angry haha.

Pai Mei is FUCKING BRILLIANT!! And all those camera zooms to him rubbing his beard and moustache and going 'Hmh-Mhahah!' how couldn't you love this guy. And when he sheeths the sword from like 30 metres away...classic :D.

And did Uma Thurman look REALLY HOT to you in the scene where he meets up with that old mexican guy? Wow.

I thought vol.2 ruled over vol.1,but the best scene in the movies is when The Bride unsheeths her sword and the Crazy 88's surround her...the music is so god (thanks RZA) and the editing, the angles ....it's better than the fucking fight scene (WHY B&W?!)

dude the movie definitely did not go 'over my head', elgato.

the irony and shit you guys are talking about are so fuckin blatant its ridiculous. i know the cheesy angles and camerawork are purposeful. but i enjoyed the first movie because it was more or less mindless violence. the 2nd movie tried, unseuccesfully, to be deep and shit.

and dont even get me started on the part where the assassin lets her live cuz she's pregnant.

So you like mindless violence, dismiss everything that was 'deep and shit' about pt 2 without any apparent basis for it (and no, no one believes you when you say you 'got it'), and you hold this as your critique of an important film. I understand.

Comments like that one make me wish they had some kind of restrictions on moviegoing... it's like looking at a Monet and saying 'damn, that shit's too blurry for me.' This isn't subjective. You're just wrong.
