Kids vs Adults

I feel like ski patrol treats kids way unfair compared to adults. If I'm skiing out of bounds with friends I get the corner of my pass clipped and am told if I do it again I lose my pass for the season. If I'm skiing with my dad out of bounds and ski patrol see's us he could give two shits where we're skiing. I've also seen kids skiing way too fast and getting their passes away while 3 or 4 grown men go ultra gaper crazy speedman jones down the face screaming because there carhart overalls aren't warm enough and they're drunk as hell and ski patrol could care less about a bunch of rednecks that cant stop. Not giving rednecks shit but I just have a ton where I ride. I love the jackass laughing at me while he's flying past while my pass gets clipped. Anyone else have this problem where they ride?

Generally if i get in trouble with the ski popo i just say sorry blah blah blah wont happen again blah blah blah, im just nice about it and it usually ends up aight.

I have only had experience with Ontario ski patrolers and they are all ass holes.

1. Most are volunteers.

2. Most cannot ski.

3. I have had my pass "threatened" for skiing in the trees.

4. I have also had my pass "threatened" for inverts.

Some are alright but most are comletely un just.

has anybody else ever wondered what would happen if you tried to greenpass an old lifty/ski po? like... would they get mad? or just confused?

i love gettin warnings, i love how when they write their initials on may pass and it showing all employees that one more strike its hilarious, cause i slip the pass into a deep pocket and pull out the bottom stub and get a new ticket, but keep the old one as a memoir

by greenpass you mean offer a puff?

if so depends on the person probably. gotta use judgement, they'd probably be pissed if they were all anti ganja and shit (obviously) but you know some of them old dudes are always fucking stoned.

It's basically a respect and responsibility thing.

You show it, you'll get the reward.

I'm friends with the ski patrol at Kicking Horse, I like it, always getting an insight into everything. I look around my mountain, I only see ski patrol hassling people when they're fucking around with ski hill property. Just don't be an asshole.

Go to Lake Louise, Alberta, opening weekend. Soooo many over zealous patrol there. Got my pass pulled 2 years ago for just popping a 1. I'm over it.

even though u sign wavers and shit some gaper kid hearts himself and the mountain can get in trouble especially out of bounds. there for they group all minors together no matter you skill level.

My Dad has stories about having like 3 different jackets in his tent. ya my dad lived on the backside a a basin in a hidden tent for 4 months. But he got his pass clipped 35 times.

I was a lifty at the shine last year and since i was a. canadian b. a skier lots of the patrollers were really nice to me. Took me in stuff before it was open and were generally just really nice to me.

Just think about how much shit they have to deal with in a day. It's just like cops..

You have the nice cops who will give you a break as long as you truly werent doing anything wrong. Then you get those cops who have been called a pig 3 times already in a day and don't give a shit anymore.

wow, never tried this before O.o I don't even think my mountain got a ski patrol, just some people watching the lifts, and they are usually nice.

I have 2 comments, where I ski anything thats not in ski boundary is forest service land so they can say shit that your skiing there they just aren't responsible if you get hurt.
The second thing is if you ever get caught doing something stupid don't ever show then that you have a seasons pass. Have an old day pass around from the resort or just say you hiked in or something along those lines... if you can get away with it with out them trying to prosecute you for riding a lift without a pass.

on second thought I got blocked into the parking lot by some random maintenance dude in a tuck after doing a doughnut on the far end of the parking lot.. he wrote my lisc plate number down and told he me was calling state patrol to pick me up on the way down the mountain. I told him to fuck off and drove away...

i had a friend who was on ski patrol for a year, he got kicked off because he skied out of bounds, down the stairs, and hit the rail on the deck. apparently thats a no no.

Got my pass taken while standing in the lift line last year, apparently the patroler said i was going "Dangerously fast" down a green run, Yes i was going fast, but i was aware of my surroundings, this is why i didn't see the patroler. He was upset because he was yelling but i had my headphones in, but i could barely hear my music, guess i was really haulin lol

He said i was done for the week and i was super upset, but i was polite and apologized, then i followed him into the lodge and talked to his supervisor. He said that this happens all the time and because i was polite i could come back in an hour and get my pass back, so i took a shit, ate a sammy and was back on the slopes :)

when you are stopped just make sure you are polite, also take down their name, that makes them worried. Go see the supervisor and talk to them, they are generally really understanding and know that patrolers are sometimes out to nab kids, especially when it's busy out.

Yes i was going fast, but i was aware of my surroundings, this is why i didn't see the patroler.

This makes no sense.

He is part of the surroundings.

You were asking for it, bombing down a green trail, you fucking jackass. What did you expect? There are slow signs for a reason. You broke the rules, sack up and pay the fucking price.

Kind of an ironic story, skiing in the tree's with my buds which is not aloud at my home mountain even though it is pretty big. Anyway the patroller see's us from the run and tells us to get out of their. So we get out and he starts giving us the same old shpeal... it's dangerous there is unmarked obstacles. Then 3 other older guys come down the same area and he calls them out. So we show him all our passes, the other three guys show there pass which is a blue card which means employee. He tells them to take off there googles and balaclavas and it's a fellow patroller. So in the end he's like I won't clip your pass or put your # down for the warning. I feel as though if the off duty patrollers didn't come down he would have. I feel that it is unfair and it should be a do at your own risk thing.

There is biases though cause adults see us as "unruly" and are out to get us.

my dad and step mom are on ski patrol at my mountain so i know every single patroller and they've all watched me grow up and they love me so i never really have issues. most of them take me into the unopened trails and the trees.

I got my ticket clipped once last year for just cruising a groomer switch. Patroller was a straight up dick even when I politely tried to explain to him that I was in complete control blah, blah. Went down to the lodge and talked to the head patroller and told him what was up, said I ski here all the time and I'm a good skier, whatever. He said if I went up with him and proved that I could ski in control regular and switch I'd get my ticket back. I got my ticket back and ended up getting 4 free lift tickets for my "inconvenience" from the front desk hahaha.
