Has anyone ever been here? in BC looks pretty nice huge verticle. and everyone should look at Skican.com dirt cheap packages that include everything like lift tickets airfare lodging it awesome.
I had the best skiing day of my life there last year...and it was a terrible snow year. It's so amazing. I'm told it's twice as good as whistler minus the 'whistler scene'. Go there for sure. Don't expect a park though..i'll be surprised if they bother..the rest of the place is so damn sick they don't need one.
It's alllll steeps...and not wussy steeps like sunshine or louise.....like REAL double blacks...deadly stuff. From calgary....prolly 3 hours...i think it was about 2 hours from canmore if i remember correctly.
if you go, MAKE SURE you hike up to blue heaven...you'll regret it if you don't....ski the backside of it too...should prolly have avy gear cause it's outta bounds...i didn't..but it seemed pretty safe..you can ski right back to the gondola from it...and there's like bottomless untouched pow back there.
www.kickinghorseresort.com is the web page i think..just look at the trail map..so sick.
I was out there last year, it'll be wicked when they clear out all the stumps and stuff. I heard it'll be as big if not bigger than Whistler when they're done developing it. It's like four hours from where I live.
yeah i was staring at the trailmap and thinkg about how with not to many more lifts you could ski endless bowls if you were willing to hike and stuff. it does look amazing.
I went to Kicking Horse with my school freestyle team out of cranbrook. In the Bowl we hiked up and built a kick on this natural road gap. It was great! we filmed so much. On guy did a double back but landed on his face. got up close and personal for the interview and he had a wicked mess of blood coming out. Other than that... The chalet at the top had dome good food and you can scope out your lines while munching down on a burger, though it was quiet expensive. The Gondalla was wicked and we had a few session with the local kids. The mountain is great except for the long run out to get back to teh gondulla. Well that's my speal and it is truely a wicked mountain.
Ya ill be living there very soon here. I went only once this year, but it was pretty good. The top is pretty damn nice, but the bottom could use some more snow. It has the potential for doing some insane stuff there. Some of the lines and cliffs are just placed right. The snow seems real light too. There is one really good place to build huge ass kickers there too. I dont know what its called but its to the right of the gondala looking up and you have to hike up a bit. We hit one there a week ago or so. As far as going out of bounds there though, i think that avalanche gear and knowledge would really help, cause I guess its suppose to be one of the more dangerous avanlanche places.
i hit up golden a couple times last year and it was sick even in that shitty winter. The best thing was there was no one at all we got fresh tracks out of the last gondola, might be busier this year though check it out for sho if you can, also there seemed to be filming every time i went there
This isnt 'Nam Dude, this is bowling there are rules
Yah...last year we had fresh tracks the whole day we were there. You could always find untouched pow. But ya..this year will be different, everyone knows how sick that place is..it'll be busier. The best part about kicking horse though is that it's not a beginner hill....gapers would get their ass kicked by that thing. Everything is steep and deep.
i went last year and it kicked ass. only problem is there is only 1 big lift so to ski the bowls at the top u have to ski all the way back down to the bottom with huge moguls most of the way. killed my knees.
