So all the mountains are closing, most for good reason because they have no more snow and dirt doesn't slide like snowflakes...

and then you come to vancouver. the most forgotten and overlooked city in skiing. the city that the industry has said FUCK YOU to countless times with absolutely no support to the skiers.

So why should the mountains stay open here? after all its april.. just like the ski industry the mountains have again said fuck you to the people who love to ski.

Seymour, Cypress, Grouse, and i have no clue how many other PNW hills are closing this weekend, are closed, or will shortly be closed. why?

480cm at the base doesn' cut it. 650cm at the top isn't enough reason to stay open. 60cm in the past 2 days is prime closing conditons... out of the 3 vancouver hills not 1 sees the point in stayin open with about 500cm of snow at the base, and more snow coming. pull out your hellbents for closing its looking deep.

what the fuck?

Thats how it goes, they make there money off of the tourists, and day tickets, not off of season pass holders...

it's because of either money or land leases, it's not them saying fuck you.

go hike.

You are complaining because you still have great snow conditions. The mountains are pretty much forced to close, it isnt a matter of how much snow there is. Land leases, lack of revenue coming in and insurance policies cause mountain resorts to close early.

If I was you I would be stoked to have snow when the mountains close. Go up there and hike that. If its a pow day there will be no one there so itl be like hiking the bc.

financially speaking, they probably want to be open in the winter, and if they lose too much from staying open long, that won't happen. so i mean it sucks, but there isn't too much you can do unless you get a random flock of a shitload of people to follow you to the mountain.

Dude, you're telling me Seymour doesn't leave their jibs out? Get out there

As for Grouse - well, maybe their insurance has ended, or their employees' contracts end, or whatever. But nevertheless, a mountain must've realized that if they advertise properly and stay open longer, they'll get even more tourists. Actually, wait... Grouse has grizzlies in the summer. Bear jibbing, anyone?!?

With the amount of snow we've had, we could be skiing 'till May. I'd be quite willing to pay an extra sum for my Y2Play pass each year if Grouse was guaranteed to stay open until the snow actually runs out.

no one gets it...

its not about the mountains closing, they cant stay open. everyone understands money, insurance, provincial parks etc.

whats up ski industry. i know this isn't over your head.

no shit we hike, we hike every weekend and set up the jibs. but dont tell me you would be pleased if all 3 mountains near you closed mid april when they could easily be open till the end of may.

and going to whis costs money
