Kerry doesnt know facts

'the unbelievable blindness, stubbornness, [and] arrogance'-John Kerry in response to reports of missing weapons in Iraq.

Strange how Kerry bashes bush for 'blindness' when it was Kerry who messed up. If you dont know, the UN tagged a bunch of illegal weapons in Iraq before the war. However, when the US came later in 2003, the weapons were gone. Kerry makes it sound as if it was the presidents fault that the weapons went missing before troops were even sent. Talk about blindness

ENOUGH. please god, enough. no more of these threads. may your pubes be infested with the fleas of a thousand camels.

hellmut doesn't know context... Kerry's said that a bunch of times, and always in reference to the president's and vice president's failure to admit that ANY mistakes had been made in Iraq. I mean, Cheney goes ahead and says 'If we could do it all again, I wouldn't have done anything differently'. Are you fucking kidding me?

Anyways, before I get further off-topic, that is, I believe, what the good senator was referring to.

Are you kidding me? True, Kerry has said something like that several times, however, those words were in direct response to the 'missing weapons in Iraq' Do you watch the news? They have been replaying Kerrys speech all day, I suggest you listen to it.

I always thought the people would want to know all they can about the canidates, wait sorry, I guess the people only want to know 'how fucking stupid bush is'. This is also the biggest news story out there right now, the 'october surprise'

Is this the AlQaQa business? I was under the impression that whether the weapons were there before US troops arrived wasn't a certainty; people were just saying that may have been the case. Is it a sure thing now?

We know the weapons were there during the UN inspections and were tagged by UN officials. However, the weapons were not there during the invasion of Iraq, this is all a fact. Kerry talked as if Bush lost the weapons.

Ok, I see... haven't been paying attention to this story, because it seemed initially to have been blown out of proportion. So we knew they were there going before the war, they disappeared some time between then when the US troops got there back in 2003... and they're just figuring this out NOW? I mean, it seems to me if you have a cache of weapons that huge supposedly located in a large munitions complex... wouldn't that be one of the first places you'd look? You know... to guard it, in case the weapons were still there? This doesn't make a whole lot of sense either way but somebody isn't doing their job, that's for damn sure.

My question is why didnt the UN secure the weapons instead of just tagging them? My assumption is because sadam wouldnt allow them to. So it is now Bush's fault the UN didnt secure the weapons. Do you expect US troops do sieze the entire country at once?

Actually they investigated the matter in 2003 and found faulty security, you obviously dont remember the incident.

on another note, 243,000 tons of weapons have been destroyed by troops in Iraq.

I don't think the inspectors (note job title) are actually allowed to take possession of the weapons in question.

you are right i forgot, the UN's job is tell Iraq they have illegal weapons and then do nothing about it. Sadams a nice guy, he will take the weapons away if we just tell him to.

No, I mean, it would have violated international law for them to have 'secured' the weapons.

Oh, right, I forgot... you republicans are all about violating international law. My bad. Well, see, the inspectors would have been fired if they'd done that. So, from THEIR perspective...

So whose job was it to secure the weapons, these were illegal weapons. Are you suggesting we let Iraq keep the weapons?

I understand the inspectors job was only to inspect, however, you would think the UN should have done something more when weapons were found.

Again, I may have missed some facet of this story, but how were these explosives illegal?

when the weapons were or werent there isnt why this story is blowing up now. the IAEA sent some kind of memo out detailing the loss of these weapons just a few days ago. why now? well, thats anyones guess. im sure you know the spin coming from the right though, namely that the aforementioned agency, a part of the UN is none to friendly to the pres.

the second part of the issue is that both the new york times and CBS were preparing stories (the NYT ran the story, while it appears that CBS may be backing off) that implied that the weapons were lost sometime when the country was under direct US controll, hence a failure for the president, which, coincidently is the rhetoric coming out of Kerrys mouth every speach he has given in the past few days.

thats why the story is big. nothing to do with what was or wasnt there.

''preparing stories (the NYT ran the story, while it appears that CBS may be backing off) that implied that the weapons were lost sometime when the country was under direct US control''

So it's an absolute positive they weren't then? Because last I heard the jury was still out. They have some proof now?

uh, yeah.

what i am hearing today is that the weapons were there for a fact at the last inspection about a month before invasion. when the 1ID was on their way though up to baghdad they stopped and performed a cursory investigation. no weapons, no IAEA seals on the doors. so allegedly, the weapons must have dissapeared sometime in the month in between the inspectors last visit, and the push to baghdad. that is what i understand at least.

apparently it was something like 38 tons of explosives and other weaponry. not the kind of thing that could be spirited away in the middle of the night by insurgents in nissan pickup trucks.

Well, that sounds more or less like a non-issue. So... why exactly wasn't the response 'Um, yeah. We know they're not there... we've known that for a while, guys'? This makes no sense whatsoever... how is this a debate? Shouldn't it be brought up, answered, and forgotten? I'm glad I didn't pay attention to this one...

I thought anew made it pretty clear in his first post. The Times' story made it sound like the loss of the weapons was Bush's fault, which is not true. Kerry has also been making speeches which make this incident appear to be another blunder by the Bush admin, which also is not true.

zactly. its a total non issue.
