Yes, it's true. The Quarter Horse is the fastest horse in the quarter mile. I breed Quarter Horses, but i breed them to go very slow. We specifically breed for Western Pleasure classes which is going around an arena in circles and have a judge judge us on how our horse moves. We breed for conformation and for a specific movement.

My gelding a few years ago sold for 35 grand, but that is about average. I really couldn't tell you about the price range now on horses.
 
We used to have 3 a year on the ground by March. But ever since my mom found out that she had cancer a few years ago we only bred one mare, but that was two years ago. Hopefully we can have at least two on the ground by March 2010.
 
how many times can you breed a female horse, i know for cows, my uncle, says they double their herd every year, because they "rent" the bull, and then they go from 4 to 8, 8 to 16, and then they butcher the steers.

Gestation is 11 months. You can breed a horse up into their late 20s, but it's different for every horse. I have 6 horses.

You need to change out the bull in a herd every two years because you don't want him breeding with his daughters - bad for the bloodlines.
