That is all.

... because she hasn't ever won any real contest? People did this with tom wallisch after his superunknown, claiming he could beat anyone in the field with ease. It took him 3 more years to qualify and win a Dew tour stop.

Not to say that she isn't THE BEST girl skier for her age. she still has accomplishments to achieve. If she really is going to be that sick, then she shouldn't have a problem getting in like everyone else.

ahem

? why would she be treated differently for insurance? she just needs a parent or guardian to sign a liability release just like any other competition

maybe the features are a bit big but she could seriously win. i think she can do every trick in this run and possibly better (obviously linking tricks is harder).

I mean think of the publicity for X...

"9-year-old wonder ski girl from Estonia gives pro women a run for their money!"

I think the current female athletes competing should petition to get her in. Honestly, she's the future of skiing, and is one of the first girls to actually really really push women's skiing forward (rather than backward which is what's been happening in recent years).

And as far as media goes, who doesn't want to see a 10 year old kill it at a male dominated sport.

Really the only question is speed on those jumps.

Also, it's a bummer that she won't even be able to compete in the 2014 games because of her age. I guess she'll just get super hungry and dominate the 2018 games, and then again in 2022, and then maybe in 2026.

its pretty sad that those videos are the literally some of ghe highest levels in womans freestyle skiing. Its honestly pathetic and they don't deserve equal winnings, etc. Womens racing on the other hand is a different story

did you guys just hear about kelly recently? shes been going hard in comps for a while now and has honestly made so much progress since i saw her first 2 years ago

not tryin to hate on womens skiing but im just amazed at how a 540,540,and 720 can win xgames..and im amazed at how big the gap is between mens and womens skiing

Waivers aren't bulletproof. If she gets seriously injured or killed her parents can still try to sue ESPN, which will chew through a whole lot of lawyer time.

She would be treated differently because she's a very young girl.

Just for clarification, I'm not saying that's the reason. I don't know the reason. I think that might be the reason, but I'm not a insider.

I know you posted after this, but still, they? Just because you enter another country would not change the mentality (that I would be willing to bet on with my earbuds) which is definitely not very suey-suey around this part of the world.

Oh I agree with you, however the insurance company that covers ESPN/X-Games probably doesn't look at it the same way as you and me.

If she did compete and got seriously injured or killed, and the parents did decide to sue for negligence or gross negligence, and they didn't want to settle out of court and it went all the way to trial it would be VERY difficult for ESPN's lawyers to explain that it was reasonably safe to allow a 9 year old girl to hit 80 foot jumps.

That's my reasoning at least. It's probably flawed, but I can't think of any other reasons why she isn't going. She has the talent and ESPN would cash in big with that kind of a story to promote.

Her competing would give me a reason to watch women's slopestyle.

No, I'm sure you're reasoning is not flawed at all. It's probably pretty hard to explain to some lawyers of a huge company that you are not going to sue whatever happens with the US' suing culture.

You can sue anyone for anything. Hell...I can sue you because I think your face looks funny. Anyone can sue for anything. Whether or no it holds up in court is a different story.

If a pro skier died, or got seriously hurt, he could still sue EPSN, a waiver doesn't PREVENT someone from sueing. It helps prevent them from WINNING the lawsuit. ESPN would still have to dish money out for lawyers regardless or not.

They should let the girl compete, as she is just as good if not better then most of the competition.

However, I was unaware that there is a age requirement for the x games.

But, and I'm still willing to bet that it goes for a lot of people outside the US, even in the US I hope - suing for damages, or if someone's hurt in a competition etc., no matter their age, is not what people do. Most people outside the US believe doing something like that is morbid and disrespectful.

The cases where you have some freak accident happen, killing a family's child and then the family sues for millions. It makes no sense, it's disgusting and hurts the image of the US judiciary system, leading to more and more rules and regulations and waivers and things not allowed to do because "someone might sue".

well here the burden of medical expenses is usually on the victim, not some circle jerk where everyone shares the bill at tax time

I would be upset if I was forced by my government to pay for someone's medical treatment if they got hurt while being exploited by private broadcast corporations. I guess you wouldn't.

see the latest video? she does a blunt 9 and switch right 7 mute. when the winning run at x-games last year has a 5, right 5, switch 7 then I'd say she's a serious medal contender.

So if your family would die or get hurt in a freak accident, would you sue for compensation?

I'm talking about the mindset, of course they'd have her insured and waivered in. And thanks again for mocking universal healthcare for no reason.

I wouldn't ask you to pay for it.

In regards to me suing, it depends entirely on the circumstance (tree falls over in the woods: probably not sueing anyone. Scaffolding falls over at the xgames: probably gonna sue).

You realize courts don't just award random free money right? There has to be proven damages and losses. The suing mindset comes in because family members act emmotionally, while corporate representives work with financial interests in mind. So it becomes a courts duty as a 3rd party to assign responsibility.

The mindset that it's everyone's responsibility collectivly as a nation is absurd considering this specific discussion, not skiing soley for herself, but skiing at the request, and for the benefit of a private corporation.

Tomato tomatoe.

I'm sure it wouldn't sound absurd to her parents at all.

I just wish they'll notice her and invite her at least to the European X-Games.

ehhh more like purchased tomato, stolen tomatoe

There: "my family member is injured/dead, make everyone pay fot it"

Here: "my family member is injured/dead, make the responsible party pay for it"

At least we agree that she should be able to compete.

Look at that vid of Kaya, she basically knuckled the bottom booter despite coming clean off the penultimate one. Kelly is like half her size, if that.

The features at X-Games are just too big for a person that tiny to be able to get the speed for; even some of the rails she would probably struggle to get the height to get onto.

She's a great skier, not just for her age, but she is TOO SMALL at the moment.

Maybe you should re watch that video cause kaya was doing multiple speed checks between every jump, if kelly went straight into every jump and tucked i bet she'd have no problem clearing these jumps. Common X jumps aren't that massive..

She is to small. no doubt about that. If she knuckled and pancaked the deck, boom out.

I don't want to see her out for a season or two because we pushed this on her too young.

I feel that she could beat most of the girls that compete at X. If she can get corks on those spins, she has a legit chance.

I just feel that she should keep on doing what she does, then in 2-3 years we see. I mean she might be ready now. But why risk it when you have such talent.
