Ok, so my dad is all gay about freestyle ski'ing..he hates how i always ski with my friends instead of him, and when i do ski with him, i ski park and he ski's downhill. So pretty much he doesnt think i deserve him paying for my waxing and sharpening because he thinks i will ruin the sharpening almost instantly. I havnt had a wax or sharpening sense i was out @ A-Basin for spring break of '08. So i have skied prolly about 20+ times sense then, and not one sharpen or wax sense. My skies seen to skate actually really good lol, and slide on boxes exceptionaly well...mabye to well for my own good? Im always slipping out of rails and boxes, mabye this is the reason? So how often do you park rats get your ski's waxed and sharpend?

Sparksnotes : I dont think waxing and sharpening is necissary for park. How often do you guys get it done?

Wax will make you stick on boxes.

Get a job and pay for it yourself? Dont be such a dick to your father? Tune em yourself?

i only wax my skis...sharpening edges is kind of pointless for a few reasons: you're going to catch them on rails, they'll get dulled down after one day, repeatedly sharpening them will wear them down really fast if you're skiing park...it just doesn't make sense.

anyway, you can buy a waxing setup from REI for like, $25 right now...look into it

Dude just buy a hunk of wax, a plastic scraper, a cheap iron and a brush and do it yourself. Your dad shouldn't need to blow his money on waxing, especially considering you can get all of the equipment to do it yourself for like 20 bucks, roughly how much it costs to get them waxed at a lot of shops. Its not that hard. Edges don't really matter, and your just making them go away quicker if you keep on filing them.

I baby my Pipecleaners, TNKs, and JJs. My AR5s are for rails and rocks, so I could care less. Even still those things are riding strong after 3 seasons.

i never wax or sharpen my edges on my park skis, i just let them get beat upbut i keep my sfbs in perfect condition, sharp edges and a smooth wax

If you know anything about skiinbg is that there is more to skiing than just park. I ski park but i am not a park rat i work on edge control and that also staying centered ( helps you look better in park). You can wax and sharpen your skis by ur self its not that hard. Sharpen your skis at a 45' bevel and you wont catch any edges. WAxing is simple as long as you remeber to scrap off after your done.

dude... you can take time out of your busy day (rolls eyes) and atleast ski a little bit with your dad...

just make sure your dad doesnt out ski you, that could be embarrassing.

then go to goodwill, buy iron for about 8$, go to shop buy wax (price varies) at said shop pick up scraper, brush.

go out to garage, and wax um yourself.

I sharpen my edges everywhere except under my foot. You can still slide rails cuz its dull underfoot, but you also get some grip on the icey stuff.

I have skied about 50 times on my new park skis without a tune up. My last pair probably got 200 times on them without a tune up.

im on day 107 or so without a sharpening and i havn't waxed my skis since the end of last season so prob like 68 days or so...

Wax them yourself, its relaxing and makes you feel productive.

I would kill if I could ski with my dad, but he can't do it because of his back.

I used to sharpen and wax all my skis, then once I got into park, I stopped bothering to sharpen my park skis. Eventually, I really stopped caring about all my skis. I ski on dull edged park skis enough that i'm used to the feel, and as long as you keep any mountain skis out of the park they stay sharp enough.
Basically, it's worth it to wax your skis every now and then, but sharpening is not worth it.
you can get a used iron at a yard sale or thrift store, buy some wax, and get a sharp plastic scraper all for cheap. Then just wax every 5 days you ski or so and they will stay plenty fast.
Dont listen to people that say you will stick on boxes, that's only true if you don't scrape

dang dude, dont be so harsh on your old man ski with him while you can, i stopped taking advantage of that and my pops broke his hip skiing and kinda lost touch with it. and i dont blame him for not wanting to pay for your stuff haha just hot wax your skis a few times a season, when they get dry and bases start turning white thats when you'll know. if you live on the east you may want to sharpen your skis on occasion not under foot just infront of your toes and heels, well thats what i used to do anyway, that way you can still get some carve into jumps and stop on that icy stuff.
