Keep the stoke alive (mountain biking)

I'll keep it short.

I picked up 3 jobs, and am 100% sacrificing this winter to bust my ass and save up for a new full suspension bike (specialized enduro (i can probably get a pro deal and need that 170 travel)). I'm currently working 7 days a week. This is particularly painful because I live a quarter mile from Brecks gondola.

Had to sell my last bike to move into my current place, which is at the entrance to 200+ miles of trails in the summer.

I'm going crazy working.

please post anything mountain bike related: why you love it, your favorite personal stories about a ride w/ the boys, your whip, your favorite vid, etc.

help ya boi out and remember that sometimes you gotta sacrifice for your passions.

bikes are the shit! you ever ride up on kenosha pass?

yeah G only once in the rain though. Rideable from my front door! Breckenridge is truely slept on for its mountain biking.

love_ninja is back. My job last summer hooked me up with a bike, so das pretty decent. also why's your dick so hard for 170? dude all the cool kids are going hardtail 29er. my homie I ride with shreds butthole on his ht.

If I can scrape a bit more money together I'll probably buy a nomad or Bronson at the start of summer. Breck trails are awesome

yuuup my broke ass whips around on a POS ht and I can still dust the majority of people living the full squish life! Totally would spend for some more travel if i could though, but an fs bike is still a ways down on my list of toys.

Also don't have the money to MAINTAIN a nice whip, another issue entirely.

so many trails you can shuttle just using the bus! Kenosha is unreal when the wild flowers start popping and also when the aspens change (too bad everyone knows about it now).

damn im gettin stoked just thinking about it! get all this white shit outta here lol

^^50to01 is definitely the sickest.

i'm not obsessed with 170, but for the type of riding I do, and where I live, its an extreme benefit. we're located at 9,500 ft, and that's the lowest it gets. EVERYTHING is extremely unforgiving rock and tundra.

plus I'm trying to get rowdier this season.

thanks for the responses guys. finally starting to stack and see a light at the end of the tunnel.

True, not much of one, though.

I feel like 90% of the people who drop a couple gs on bikes a.) barely know how to ride and b.) barely have the desire to ride. They effectively just get one so they can post pics of it on facebook so all the girls back home will think they're gnarly shredder bros.

The music and filmmaking in this one makes me wish for summer to ride.

You've probably seen this one already but it's so great.

true. its honestly heart breaking seeing some dude on a Nomad with enves or an SB6c that walks every feature. I'm not mad they spent that much money on something they're not good at, i'm just jealous that I don't have it but would actually utilize it lol.

Also Unreal was an instant classic^

I'm pretty happy riding a comp build aluminum enduro, while having the money to also ski and travel for both.

The rowdier your riding, the more money you spend on maintenance, parts, and medical fyi.

Probably gonna ski some shitfuck conditions on Saturday then go for a ride at my favorite zone near Bellingham Sunday if it dries out a little bit.

Yeah I don't disdain them I just think it looks silly to pull up to the lot with a spaceship bike and a neon fox jersery or whatever when its obvious that you've never hit a pump track (the majority of people I see riding 5 inch bikes around places like buffalo creek). Everyone should learn to rip a ht before they commit to fs.

If n00bs werent buyin em I probably wouldn't be able to dream about owning one, though.

I ride a full suspension rig because im a fucking pussy now. I still teach on a ht because its genuinely just as much fun, if not more when riding with the kids. But when im descending I feel more safe on the big rig.

Stop riding at trails where newbs ride and you won't have this problem.

this.

Tried riding keystone a few times 2 years ago on a hardtail. I couldn't feel my arms for days after.

IF you can, try and jump on the new Pivot Firebird. I'm on the mach 6 and got to ride the firebird and shit that thing is amazing. The first true 170 that peddles as good or better than most 150 on the market.

The issue I see is that a bike that big and slack is basically a dh bike so it's terrible on anything but bike park, or rowdy DH. it's cool you won't have to push or shuttle to the top, but honestly when most ride dh, I always have a shuttle crew anyways.

Outside of bike bark, I'm a much bigger fan of poppy playful bikes (even on tech dh type stuff) than monster truck sleds.

Also, most people don't ride rowdy trails or bike park all the time, and if they do, they'd be much better served with a full dh sled IMO. And if they aren't, this bike would likely make all the glowy mellower trail too boring and full

This and the kona 167, and RM Slayer are just too niche IMO.

While the firebird is slack, the DW link and setup make for an amazingly playful bike. The build I road was in the 28lb range and my Mach 6 is in the 26lb range. Both peddle extremely well. In my neck of the woods, I need a bike that can still peddle as we don't have the Bike parks and shuttle rides. I need to get to the top myself. I still want a ripper on the way down and they both give me an epic ride. All riders have their own idea of how much is too much travel. Not trying to convince what works for me will work for you. Just that they are damn fun bikes from personal experience.

Heres my baby that is in hibernation for the winter, SC Hightower. I go in and talk to her every now and then. Loving the winter we are having out here in CO, but its always good when spring breaks and I can throw a leg back over the bike!

As far as long travel single crown goes, I agree they are pretty niche, but they sell so well because so many people THINK they need all this travel and what not. I went from a Bronson to my Hightower and couldn't have been happier. Rarely have I been left wanting more travel (135mm). There are a handful of people I have run across that are even trading their Nomads for Hightowers. Not to mention the Santa Cruz enduro guys are running hightowers on the EWS, The thing is just so damn fast!

Dude biking is the best thing for the summer. I picked up a Bronson 2.0 in the fall and that thing is RAD! Obviously I'm not trying to be done skiing any time soon but I am definitely looking forward to hitting the trails.

So i won't be able to get the specialized prodeal. so much for a new bike.

on the upside, I don't have to get a specialized.

hmu if you tryin to sell a 2015 27.5 nomad

Bummer on the pro deal falling through!

If you are looking for used bikes cruise Pinkbike buy/sell. There is always a lot of good stuff in there.

Or if you want to go new, head to Mojo Wheels down in Denver! Best bike shop ever, and always willing to throw deals!

got sick of running and wanted a more fun way to stay in shape last summer, so i bought a hardtail. already saving the pennies for a full squish bike now. cant believe i waited this long to start mountain biking. amazing way to get that adrenaline rush from skiing in the summer

Pretty similar in terms of linechoice... It's just much harder to recover cause you only have a thin track to follow haha

this will probably turn into somewhat of a build thread. The orange/yellow on black is my least favorite colorway santa cruz has ever done, so i found somewhere to get replacement decals. I'm thinking beige as the main color, and pink accents. most of the frame will still be black tho.

I PICKED UP THE BIKE TODAY THERE IS A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL MY FRIENDS

still gotta work a lot to pay off the remaining 1k i owe, but i'll be spending my day off driving around the state 2 shred
