Keep skiing out of the olympics!

You are a prick...
Skiing is already judged with a points system.
The exposure that we as an industry would receive would be incredible, and the explosion of funding in our sport would outweigh the disadvantages of having more 'freeskiers' on the hill.

I think you need to take a step back and consider whether you want to be cool and individual or have a scene that is so large and events like the JOSS/Xgames going on all over the states and world...

I am for the progression of this sport, i don't know about you.

honestly, do we really need any more money in the sport? I am pretty happy now with the state of my equipment, park, magazines & movies. I really think that if we go any more mainstream we are going to be bombarded with gapers in the park, and skiing will take a general turn for the worse.

man that is a pretty dumb thing to say, more money into the sport wont hurt it. There are those who will make comments like "there wont be any more core companys" but how is a company becoming more sucessfull a bad thing? More people getting into the sport will simply allow our sport to grow at a faster rate. Sure you like the way things are now, but things can always get better, skis can become stronger, parks can become cooler, the way I see it saying that keeping skiing out of the olympics will be the betterment for the sport then you would have to be one of the dumbest people I will ever know

once upon a time, were you not one of those "gapers in the park?"... i mean we all have to start somewhere and i think that more publicity and more money would mean that we just have more kids picking up skis instead of one of those willy billy one sticks... and that in my mind wouldnt really be that bad.. i mean you can even look at snowboarding... since its been in the Olympics, names like Shaun White are household names... there is something speical about our sport in the fact that so few of the population of the world gets to experience the things that we do, and for that i can understand trying to "keep it under wraps" or whatnot... but the amount of good we could get from things like this would be outstanding...

Yeah let's restrict our top skiers from having an opportunity that they are fighting really hard to get. Let's keep that door closed and limit ourselves. Let's take something that the leaders of our sport really really want, and tell them "NO! We don't think you should be allowed to do that!" All in the name of freedom right?
You stupid ignorant prick, nobody is going to force you to watch the Olympics or ski in the Olympics, so shut the fuck up.

You can't judge skiing with a score?

So what, the x-games, us open, and pretty much every other comp is judged with stars, flowers and smiley faces? What the fuck is this, the first grade? Grow up. The olympics would bring amazing exposure to the sport and that is reason enough to do it.

Since when did skiing become art?

I'm in an art school and all, but I really can't acknowledge that "powder is a beautiful canvas" crap. Skiing is just a kick ass way to get down a mountain.

I think it's not the olympic the problem, it is all about those shitty corporate organisation, that's what basically killed oldschool skiing, I mean about the money, skateboarding, surfing aren't in the olympics at all and there is TON I mean TON of money in those sports... So being in the Olympics, isn't about money but more about reconition from the non-skiing people. And As I said before the thing I dislike about the Olympics is that FIS and all those shitty organisation will get into freeskiing/freestyle and will kill the sport once again by all the elements that will be asked. So I say No to olympics or Yes with an asterix.

You're right, I'm afraid of FIS too, but they didn't take over snowboarding when it went into the olympics. There will be the olympics and maybe a little circuit that will be regulated by FIS, but I don't think they will take over the X and other major comps.

Seeing as you go to an art school, you should understand that there isn't really a way to explain or define art. and if you don't see skiing as an art, odds are you never will.

turn off Brink and stop worrying about being a soul skier.

Rollerblading did the same shit years ago saying that main stream competitions like xgames were bad, and that it made the sport look bad, and you know what happened now? THERES NO MONEY IN IT AT ALL. Rollerblade pros dont make shit and they get no exposure, and a lot of companies that were in the industry went out of business.

Stop being selfish and wanting to do something so you will be considered different and cool. If its true that you dont enter competitions then why do you care? Just stay on the mountain and do your own thing.

I'd be happy with halfpipe in the Olympics. It's quite a technical aspect of the sport, and IMO it can be judged with points. However, you're right about slopestyle and big air - there's a lot more style incorporated into those two and IMO judging with points isn't really accurate all the itme

so... keep the skiing out of the xgames, us open, joss, whis telus then?

Theyre competitions because you compete for a score... highest score wins, like donkey kong.

dont be stupid.

all i understand is olympics=more MONEY

i think its a good idea. think of it like this Olympics=more people=more money=mountain exspansions=more skiing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear what this guy is saying, and Dishwalla. I really don't want to argue money problems because that's for an economist or accountant or someshit. I like skiing being under the radar and surprising people.

So, now to turn this thread in another direction.

Did you guys like or buy the movie Idea? What was the big Idea in that movie?

that's retarted. There's two ways pros get exposure- contests and movies. So you want the pros to get exposure strictly from the films they make or maybe from showing up at your local park which would reach like only a couple hundred people max.

it would cool if newschool was in the olympics cause then whenever i tell people i ski they wouldnt automatically think im a racer...

I'm not going to say your opinion is 'dumb' because it is your opinion, but here's mine:

-why do we need our sport to grow? So we can have busy parks and long lift lines?

-why do you want 'stronger skis'? I personally have never broken a ski and am pretty damn happy with mine.

-cooler parks? ummm I just got back from highlest level park in Whistler and I really wouldn't change anything about it.

-anyone who uses the word 'betterment' and then goes on to say I am the dumbest people they know, automatically disqualifies anything they have just said. thanks for coming out.

the end.

hey is mikee anti-olympics? because if he is that may be the first thing we have ever agreed on! wait... that and the fact that we both like mik D.

yeah fuck the olympics, though im all for getting more money into skiing, the olympics are just gay, i think it actually makes out sport more cool, since pretty much every sport in the plympics except for snowboarding halfpipe, appeals to people like 40 years old and up. plus knowing how judging will be and everything, there is a chance it could make our sport look gay since it will probably be a huck fest.

For sure dude, neither do I, and I don't think anybody on this site does...but how cool would it be to have our sport that we love, be the featured snowsport for once instead of snowboarding? How cool would it be if instead of people asking you if you are a skier right away, instead of a snowboarder? IMO that would be soooo sick. I don't know about you, but I'm getting pretty sick of people asking me if I board before even thinking that newschool skiing exists. Some people don't even know that skiers hit jumps and rails too. I tell people that I ski, but go off jumps and they were like, skiers can do flips and stuff too??? I never knew that!...I think it's about time we get some recognition as something that the general population knows something about.

dude skiing should be in the olympics. its already in the x games and there are a ton of other comps around, why not push it any furthur
