keep old bindings, or get new ones?

So i'm new skis and i'm wondering if i should just mount up my 912tis which are 5 years old, still work perfect, but will likely break before my new skis are done. So, if they break, will mounting a new pair of 912's in the same holes be less secure? Should i just get new bindings now? Obviously i would rather not because of money, but what's the smart move.

excellent question. unfortunately, i have no idea what to tell you.

yes, it would be weaker. you could probably just have them mounted further back or forward the second time and theyd be fine though

it depends on the skis. with some stronger wood cores, you can mount twice and it's not that big of a deal. here's what i'd do. mount your old bingings on your skis. when they finally do break. get new ones. if the holes are stripped out, put heli coils in all of them. they're pretty cheap at most shops. i put them in all the holes on my bindings on all my skis just cause i can and b/c i always have time to kill while im workin in my ski shop. do this and you'll be good to go

and up in yo bitch, is where ya might find me

Ive got the same problem, i broke my 912 ti heel, and am putting in another heel, can i just do this at home, take out the broken heel put some woodglue on the screws and put in the new binding?

or u might be able to fill in the holes with some JB weld then let it sit for a day and then redrill

also depends on the condition of the threads that are in the skis. if the shop doesn't rip the fuck-all out of the threads when they put the new screws in (and use wood glue), then you should be fine.

ideally, though, you don't want to mount more than once in a given set of holes. i'd personally play it safe and just mount them a centimeter forward.

the holes arent stripped, and i'd be using the exact same screws, all they do is put woodglue in in the first place when they install bindings

Before you mount your old bindings onto your new skis have the shop check the bindings out first. My buddy tried mounting his volkls with some old look bindings of mine and it turned out that the bindings weren't even working properly. 5 years is a lot for a binding, especially if you're hitting the park with them.
