I got this emailed to me, and I checked out a bunch of different sites, seems like the real deal. I deleted all my Brilliant Files, so hopefully that will help.

The company that owns Kazaa, called Brilliant will start using your own personal computer to run their operations starting April 20th, 2002. That means, after that date Brillant will use your computer's hard drive, and bandwidth to do their dirty deeds required to take over the world (well not really, but close). The reason they can do this, is because in the User Agreements (that thing you accept), it's written in there of their intentions. However, who actually reads that size 8 bull shit??? If you pass the April 20th date, and still have Kazaa, the only way to win your computer back is to reformat your hard drive (so basically erase everything and start from scratch)

Remember, uninstall that shit!!!

Check it out dude. Type in 'Kazaa, Brilliant' on Yahoo and I got like 10 different news websites on it. I dunno for sure, but its something you might wanna be aware of. I'm not deleting my program yet, but thought I should let you gusy know who use it.

So Altnet, as conceived now, is primarily a way to distribute secure content.

So Altnet can listen for Kazaa search requests and can even decide whether to respond to them or not. If it responds to them, then Altnet can propagate search results into the Kazaa (program).

That's what zdnet said. I got out of it that it would be a way for kazza to control it's content.

no d00d's it's true...hidden within kazaa is another peer-peer program that runs invisibly on your computer whenever kazaa is running. Briliant can use it for whatever means it wants...

...and how do i feel about this? I could care less. I download so much music that i might as well give something back to the company considering i am getting it all for free. I donate some of my bandwidth to them for whatever use they want...

...sorta like the same reason i leave kazaa open while i sleep and let people leech off of me...it's all for the better.

Its not bullshit, if you read the user agreement (which Im sure nobody did, including me) they stated something about the brilliant software and the right to use said software and your computer. If you dont believe it then look for the brilliant software on your computer, its there, then go on the net and learn about what it does. Ive deleted that shit a month ago. Shit I think I read something about it in Rolling Stone too.

it's not going to take over your computer, it all a bunch of bull. Why would they want to run peoples computers huh? To take all their porn or something? It makes no sense, and even if it did start shit you can just delete the program afterwards.

 
that is NOT bullshit, if you read the agreement before you install it it's right in there. So any of you Kazaa users should switch to MORPHEUS. it's the exact same, without all the bullshit. I suggest uninstalling Kazaa, getting a program by Lavasoft called Ad-aware, run that and delete all spyware. Then download Morpheus and install that, it's spyware/takeover free!

You can delete the brilliant shit without fucking up kazaa, it just takes a while to get all the files off. This brilliant stuff just uses some of your computers power, when they use everyones computer together its like a huge ass supercomputer, used to do hardcore computing and formulas.

Doesnt morpheus and grokster and kazaa all run on the same thing which is known as 'kazaa?'

Isnt that how it goes? So if I am right, then wouldnt morpheus users, and grokster users be effected by this brilliant software?

it's not gunna just 'take over'. It gives you an accept/decline offer. if you decline, you cant use kazaa, if u agree..they own half your comp but u can get free music and vids :p

it wont take over half your computer... nothing of the sort, for those who use Seti@home, its the same premise... when you are idle and online, sorta like a screensaver, this program will use the idle processing power of your computer to work on different problems. Its not malicious, and its most likely you won't notice it

i only got kazaa because the new morphius suck balls. My computer sucks so bad anyway they wont want to use it! lol. ah shit the end is near.

 
Morpheus is spyware free. I use it.

First, use a spyware detecting program to clean any spywares. I highly recommend Ad-Aware by Lavasoft (www.lavasoft.de), a company from Denmark. It's also free and updated frequently.

Second, Kazaa uses a spyware built by Brilliant and that spyware program name is BDE B3D. I have a program to detect and wipe that spyware but don't know where to upload it for you all. I thought about uploading it on the Media->Video section but I think I should get Matt's approval first.

It's only 48kb.

does it have its won file types, ecause in the folder there is movie folder and small little dat files, like 100 kb in a bunch of folders, i know that isnt good so BDE is outta my copm!

Removal instructions straight from cnet. This should not affect kazaa.

1. In the Windows Control Panel, select an option called 'Add/Remove Programs.' One of the options will be 'b3d Projector.' Highlight this and click the 'Change/Remove' button.

You may get a message that the uninstall has been successful. Search your computer for a 'BDE' folder, which most likely will be found in the 'WinNT' or 'Windows' directory. In this folder will be a file called 'bdeclean.exe'. Run this to finish the first part of the process. Delete the BDE folder.

Caution: An unrelated piece of software called Borland Database Engine also creates a BDE directory. If you think you may have this software installed, or if there is any confusion whatsoever, do not delete this directory.

2. In the 'Temp' directory (this will normally be found inside the 'Windows' or 'WinNT' directory) is a folder called 'Brilliant.' This contains many files. Delete the entire folder.

3. After performing steps 1 and 2, you will need to locate and remove some additional Brilliant Digital files that have been placed in critical system-level computer directories. CAUTION: Deleting the wrong files could interfere with the normal functioning of your computer. These files will most likely be in the 'WindowsSystem' or 'WinNTSystem32' folder:

bdedata2.dll

bdefdi.dll

bdeinsta2.dll

bdeinstall.exe

bdesecureinstall.cab

bdesecureinstall.exe

bdeverify.exe

bdeverify.dll

Delete these files.
