ok so here is my rant and all I am looking for is an explnation (if anybody has one)

A computer that you own is yours right? so how can they search it withought a warrent or some shit?

also, does anybody who knows a lot about computers know if a firewall such as 'Black Ice will' protect me from getting found out with illegal music?

(I know a fair amount about computers but not in this respect, that being said I am prutty sure that a firewall wouldn't work, although is it's job not to keep people from looking/putting stuff on your computer?)

if your just your average citizen with a couple hundred songs then no ones is gonna come for you.....there only goin for the big p2p co. for right now anyways....

they started sueing individuals, I saw in the paper. or maby this is just some fucked up american scare tactic (I donlt really beleve in that shit) or maby, my dad, the one who told me about it had the wrong understanding

yeah, they sue individuals but im pretty sure its only the ones with like huge amounts of songs and files. like, 200 albums

 
if u dont SHARE your songs can they sue you and find out bout u?

ok they are suing individuals and subpoenas have been issued against users sharing as few as 8 songs, but at this point according to statistics only about 1 in every 6000 users has been issued a subpoena

yo no matter what there are never gonna stop music sharing and such. they might attemp to stop it by handing out fines and such but then they will realize they cant stop it, so they will eventualy have to work around it or with it. trying to stop music sharing is like trying to stop the internet....most likley never gonna happen.

 
Scare Tactic. like it was said, cant be stopped by any sense of the word. they screwed up a long time ago.

i predict we will eventually get to the point where nothing is bought in physical form and all music is bought online. with a new fyle type, or modified Mp3. when the change is made they will institute some kind of safety built into the file that will curb the ability to share the file. this is the only way they will be able to prevent it. and even then, there will be a way to share it. probably just more difficult and too hard for the average listener.

i didnt get mad in my rant either. hahaha

ya. right now I have my router set on encryption, I have a Firewall called Black Ice, and I am on leach mode on kazaa (not sharing any of my files) is there any chance I can get cought? and do I need to be in leech mode (where you don't let other people download anything from you) in order not to get cought?

I buy many records. I just like to chack out the music before hand. and yes some of the stuff I have I never plan on buying, because it is so popular and I don't beleve in supporting people who are millionairs already. it is just entertainment for crying out loud! they shouldn't have that much money. however bands that arn't as populat (most of the bands I listen to anyways, I try to support by buying their records.

okay 666's guide not to being cought...

get the latest version of kazzalite

under k++ options make sure disable port 1214 is checked, make sure list sharing is disabled and blocking of bad ip ranges aswell.

under the firewall tab use port 2464.

and for 100% safeness disable sharing alltogether

although disabling list sharing is the most important and will probably protech you aswell as let you continue to share.

klite is supposed to blok riaa aswell as other orginizations ips, and have a autoupdator, but i dont know how well it works... you could always use additional firewalls, but that would be more of a pain in the ass then its worth.

i also have another question to this file stealing matter, are these people only going after kazaa? or are they also coming after other programs such as soulseek or other file sharing organizations, just curious...
