Kaya?

ya I'm wondering the same thing. I have a horrible feeling she's hurt pretty badly that was a wiked crash

ok so apparently there's no broken bones but she may have internal damage and may need to have surgery. She fell down 20-30 stairs along the side of the landing then crashed into flat plywood

one of the worst crashes I've ever seen. The thing is she stomped her 5, it was stylie too, the landing just wasn't wide enough

it wasn't 20-30 and she didn't fall on FLAT plywood. She landed clean but ran out of room on the side, going off into the little boards that were nailed to the plywood for stairs. She was still trying to stop herself through the boards and ended up doing a frontflip off the side of the landing. She then landed on the bare ground and everbody rushed to her.

Yeah, this is actually what happened. She even rode down like 10 step, then turned and caught her edge on one of the steps. probably the wost crash I've seen in person in a while.

the landing was sketch and it was seriously scary to watch her fall down there. they weren't steps so much as planks put on top of the plywood to help people climb up either side of the landing. i hope the word is right and there's nothing broken etc.

I spoke to a friend of her's briefly today and she told me that they weren't sure about if she'll need surgery, but she will be in the hospital for a while. I'll get some more info tomorrow and pass the word on when I find out how she's doing.

yeah, she didn't move after she hit the ground though. i was scared as shit for her.

that setup was so sketch. kaya ate it, a snowboarder fell into the net...

i thought she smacked her face really hard on the last board. looked like she could have easily been cut up. It was a great 540 too.

The word is that Kaya has some serious internal injuries including an almost completely torn pancreas and intestinal bruising. They were questioning whether or not to do surgery but as of now it's looking like they're going to let her body heal itself and skip any sort of surgery. (although there is still a slight chance of an operation) The outlook for a full recovery is very positive but in the meantime keep your thoughts and prayers with her and her family.

Fuck that. The fence ran out about 30 feet above the ground on that landing slope. If she would have continued to the side, she would have hit that FJ and died.

looking at that landing now im surprised this happened. i means its retarded to think nothing will happen. what a shity setup.

I'll try to get offical news from her team manager today.

Jenny called me late last night and left a message saying that Kaya is in the hospital, and she is hurt, but its not life-threatening or anything.

I'll get the truth as soon as I can!

Man, that was sooo sketchy.

No transition on the jump. Just a instant change to a 45 degree upwards angle.

And such a narrow landing. if they would've extended the snow the width of the platform it woulda been 100x better.

And she wouldn't have gone down.

shes so fuckin sick

its unreal

i couldnt watch the footage without feeling scared. i could never imagine myself getting the balls to walk up those stairs (also due to the fact i have a terrible phobia of heights) yet alone do a 5. i hope she'll be fine for the season.

man i hope that girl is okay. She definitely deserved 1st place. she landed a sick five in our first practice run then fell on her 1st official run. Then they cancelled our 2nd run because all the snowboarders fell and it took too much time. We were told that our practice run would be judged to make up for not being able to take our second run. It wasn't judged or Kaya would a won. Dammit. that girl is fearlessly sick!

Get better Kaya!!!!

Kaya still should have won her jump was the styliest and most ballsy and she did land it clean it was just they're shit that made her fall

I just got off the phone with Jenny Naftulin (Salomon team manager). Kaya is in the hospital, but she's doing well.

Salomon flew her mom out there to be with her, so Kaya has family with her.

She has injuries to her pancreas, intestine and Kidney. They are pretty sure she's not going to have to undergo surgery.

Jenny said that doctors said Kaya's body is very strong, and she is going to make it out of this perfectly fine. If all goes well she should be back up and kicking later on in the season!

There will be a more official word of whats going on, as well as where you can send get well wishes later tonight!

Get well soon Kaya!

An update from Freeskier:

She was then taken to a near-by hospital for treatment. Last night (Monday), she underwent surgery to repair internal injuries. Details of the surgery are not being released to respect her privacy until more details are known about the extent of her injuries.

As of now, we understand that the surgery was a success and she is on the road to recovery. She will remain in hospital in San Francisco for at least another week.

If you would like to send cards, letters of encouragement or flowers and chocolate, please send them to the following address. Kaya will be able to receive them once she is back home in Montreal:
