1.) The South has a high population in African Americans, thus the probability of seeing African American people stealing isn't too bad.
2.) In addition, African American people tend to be poor, for various reasons. This isn't racism, it's merely fact. There are a variety of reasons they are poor, but why they are poor isn't important in this scenario. The point is, is that their poverty reflects their level of education.
Low levels of education combined with poverty, cultural influences, and lack of developmental guidance (parenting) makes a life of crime a high probability, as is the case for many African American citizens.
In the South we have all those factors: poverty, weak education, culture which supports criminal mindesets and activities (which are developed through lack of education, poverty, and poor parenting--see the cycle yet????), and last but not least, poor parents who lack the ability to raise their children correctly, due to various reasons.
So if you were poor, uneducated, poorly raised, pissed that your house just got mown over by gale force winds and water high enough to make Noah shit his pants, in addition to being hungry, tired, and thirsty, maybe you might consider looting to...
Not that it's right, but maybe now it makes a little more sense.
Now, all that aside, Joel brings up a very good point. Our media in the U.S. could easily be biased towards coverage of certain acts by certain people. I'll have to say it's unlikely, but it wouldn't suriprise me if were true because our media is fucked.
Speaking of media...I wonder why young black males go looting, shooting, raping, and generally fucking up (look at the numbers--this has nothing to do with racism)? Well, lets look at their role models and the African Americans who have "made it." They're overwhelmingly athletes, thugs, rappers, or a combination of all three.
Granted, there are MANY MORE African American business men and women today, but the majority of African American people do NOT have the opportunity, for various reasons, to achieve a degree, etc, in order to become successful in a traditional sense (i.e. success does not equal running a large crack operation or looting a million bucks worth of shit.)
The point is, our media glorifies this bling lifestyle which is supported by this thug, "krunk," whatever the fuck you want to call it, lifestyle. And it doesn't help young African Americans aim for obtainable, sustainable futures. Combine that with the afore mentioned social factors and you have "shit life" cocktail waiting to be knocked back.
So maybe THAT's why you see African Americans looting...... Or maybe you shouldn't just post every little thought that pops into your mind. In all reality, I bet there are a FUCKING SHIT TON of white people committing crimes far more heinous then robbing a pawn shop right next door to the hungry black dude stealing some groceries.
