kato opened today, no park yet, but they have one decently set up box. other than that, it was a beautiful day and the snow was awesome.

got the park up today, should be all set up by tomorrow night.

heres what we got so far

drops in to the "stair case box" even though there is no stair case.

then you have the option of the short wood box followed by a short down rail

or you can flow into the long blue box, which is followed by the flat down

after that is the fruit roll up, long down rail, and the c box.

this is all suppose to be temporary, but seeing as Jeff the GM would rather drag all the rails to the junkyard, id expect it to be this way for the season.

nope no jumps for the front, only rails. but honestly, just based on spacing, the rail line is going to have some good flow.

tell me when the park is up and going good id like to ride on a weeknight or something at kato a couple of buddies over at rctc will make a drive from roch for some riding...what does a ticket cost?

unless they're gonna blow a shit ton of snow, which they won't, the back park is super uninviting for jumps... and rails...

i know its the perfect place, once we get size able snow well see what we can do, ill talk to kyle the park manager and see what his though is. the big deal would be getting a cat driver other than jeff patraw i.e. some one who will listen to our input to build the jump, cause jeff really dosent give a shit.

was just there today, verdict: the locations of the features are kinda good. the way the features are set-up... unacceptable... as it has been in the past few years. everything is just set to the slope of the hill so nothings flat but nothings a definite down. everythings, somewhere inbetween.. lips are taller than the rails.. no landings.. something needs to happen

i agree. expecially if they are dedicating that whole run to jumps, they better use their heads and build something decent. ill be pissed if they just put little 10-15 footers again, that gets real old.

yeah, well the thing is we just gotta pick our battles, they refuse to build any jumps bigger than 20 feet. that doesn't bother me so much cuz i really nice 20 foot jump even though small could still be fun. its not the size of their park that needs to be argued its the quality

they're blowing the fuck out of the back park, or it seemed that way when dbeck and i checked out, so we'll see.

i realize that, but theres also the factor that thats how everythings been in the past and then they say its gonna change, but it never does so i was refering to what needs to be changed from past years parks which is identicle to the current park

the park crew is putting in the "jump line" and back park monday morning. get into the office asap and voice your opinion as to what you want to see happen.

jump line?? the last time i was out there was saturday, and they had a blower on the left, and one the right where they usually just have those two jumps. but that was a week ago, so now they're planning on having a line?

idk man, i'm being a super negative nancy, but i drove by yesterday and the right side (where the jump should be) is totally groomed, and no piles. they could be moving snow around, but i doubt it. i'm runk, mt kato has small shitty jumps, and rails that are terribly set-up, mt kato is competing with afton for the worst park ever award. how stupid

i was there today and one of the "park builders" told me that monday they are setting up a 30ft step down jump in the back park. this should be interesting

back parks open

two down rails in a row, the plan was to set them up urban style, but i left before that happened.

kink box

rainbow box and a real mellow hip for newbs is set up on a riser

a-frame butter box. 4 x 16 feet up, 4x 16 feet down.

jumps go in Tuesday. but i wont be around for those either, then apparently next week the front park is being ripped out, and every thing is being re done.

sounds good man.
are they gonna blow 4x more snow on the front then ever before like fitzpatricks been going around claiming this early season?

haha fitzpatrick is fricken weird. i actually have high hopes for this now, the park crew guys have really been working hard. i think it all leans on the cat drivers now. this years park crew has been pretty legit, props to them and lets hope the cat drivers are willing to listen to new ideas

well weather and health permitting i might be there, its damn windy and its drifting pretty bad, and i just ralphed all over the place so we'll see...

not whack in a good way.
"50" foot jump....with basically a flat landing?
landing= bigger, wider, steeper.

dupont kept talking about making this glorious step down. as in 30+ feet.

i said no. make it a step up/ spirit sytle jump.

and apparently it sucks? ive not seen it yet.

yeah, kyle dupont is an interesting guy, i like him in the aspect that he has alot of energy and is willing to go out and work on shit, but i think the fact that from what i've seen he's not the greatest snowboarder and that i don't think he gets out to other hills really at all, limits his knowledge of whats going on and what things need to be like...

you have a very good point here, and while his knowledge seems limited, his enthusiasm is taking the park in a better direction than years past.

i hate that we sound like we bitch every day, but that step down is not only in bad condition, it IS unsafe right now.

what makes the jump unsafe, ive yet to see it, but if i can get your input i can talk to Dupont about changing it.

too short of a landing?

too flat of a landing?

huge knuckle?

finally got to kato today. and jumps flat out suck.. fist jump must have negative amounts of pop and kids were casing its harshly shaped knuckle all day long.

second jump, which is a legit 30 feet,is a waste of snow imo- came in hot the lip is like 10 feet long and 7 feet high so super abrupt and it kicked me way back seat almost cased it but hardly made it past the knuckle, somehow got me skis kinda underneath me, thought i was gonna tear me knee. the landing can't be more than 6 feet tall and its super mellow. there is not reason to have that jump there all thats gonna happen is people are gonna get fucked up on it. third jump i didn't even hit cuz i just gave up on the jumps. this is flat out honesty, i really don't like bitching but something has to be done about this kids are gonna get hurt big time on these jumps and it doesn't help when an employee comes up to me and brags about how sick the jumps. Nothing good is ever gonna come from these jumps period.

the few features that were fun to hit were the rainbow box and the up down butter pad, but thats about it. and someone needs to get jeff to read this forum. okay i'm done now.

yeah allen.
the rails at kato are quite nice and enjoyable. but when it comes to jumps, it may result in dropping more money on gas and lift tickets to hyland and spirit.
When the guys who build the jumps, (which majority don't even hit them??), and seem to completely base their decision on how "cool" the jump looks(from how they've talked to me) without regards shape or physics, it worries me.
I love mount kato, been there since like 4th grade(so like 10 years) and will continue to ride and support the mountain, and I'm not going to give up on them. But things like they're "park crew," which amounts to management sending up some ski school kids(idk what they do) to rake the jumps to "give them something to do" without seeming to know the purpose of what they're doing it just really stinks. "our" crew was out there and we all basically had to "ask" them to stop doing what they're doing for the sake of saving the lips.
--Werts--, I want to thank you for being on here to listen/tolerate our opinions that we rant about on here. If I ever meet you out on the hill, I want to say thanks man, I appreciate you giving your time.
