I've looked through the forums, and most people are saying that the Volkl Karmas are really stiff. I'm trying to decide between the AR5s, Big Troubles, ARVs, and the Karmas. I really loved the feel of my old Trouble Makers (i.e. how much life and spring they had, and still have, to them.) My question is, are the Karmas stiff and dead (like the Mad Trix) or stiff and lively (Idon't have an example for this)? Feel free to comment on the other skis I listed. Thanks.

P.S. I'm off to college this year, so most of the skiing I will be doing will be on trips out west. That's why I'm looking for skis fatter that the TM.

I know the V-Pro well, which is pretty much the same ski. They're an awesome all round ski but the flex will definitely hold you back in the park, and I'm pretty heavy. For one ski that does everything though, they rule, as long as you can handle a stiff ski. You really have to push hard when skiing - if you're lazy you're not in much control with them. Definitely mount them forward if you're skiing a lot of park though. I remounted mine +8cm for park only and they ski a lot nicer switch now.

 
I'm rather on the lighter side (155lbs.) Would you still recommend them?

i ride karmas but i'm a pretty big dude so i can flex them really well. i would probably go with the AR5's. if you do a lot of backcountry go with the karma, personally the most fun ski i've ever ridden, but your weight might take away from the liveliness of the ski

 
volkl skis are sick. Look into the Dogen. i know i have been saying this to everyone but its such a sick ski and its only $350.

It depends where you ski. If you're wanting to ski a lot of park, they won't be the best choice really. If you ski park, groomed and powder pretty equally and you're a good skier and like to go quite fast, they'll be nice. It's a good compromise for skiing evertything, but a compromise none the less. If you ski a lot of park then maybe an AR5, Public Enemy or Volkl's park ski would be better.

 
OTo put it another way, the Karma is an all mountain ski with a twintip. Skis like the AR5/etc are park skis that ski the whole mountain well.

 
Karmas are stiff but on a good way, for all mountain it will give much more speed which is really what you end up looking for on pow and everywhere except the park sometimes.

 
yea karmas are a lil bit stiff but they won lose they energy at all they stay nice and lively, they are great for pow as well, if ur 155 i asume ur pretty tall, go with the 177's i got the 169's but it was becasue it was at a price i couldn beat $350 brand new i couldn belive it.. i love they way they ride
