KARMA SYSTEM 101!

The thing is, Paul has admitted that thing is basically not working the way it should yet. It will be SOON though. Thats the bottom line. Hes got a ton of shit he is trying to iron out, the Karma System being one of those things.
 
yeah I thought so that's why I'm not complaining too much, I know he's got a ton of stuff to work out.

yeah I agree. I have only rated one person, to test it out (but I rated that person accordingly)

paul needs to finish fixing one major bug with the new site before he can start tweaking this. We're aware it doesn't really work properly at this point.
 
I'm not sure if this has already been suggested, but:

Could you make it so that we just enter a number from 1-100 to karma rate someone?

One dude really helped me out a while ago, so I tried to give him a 90, but got very discouraged at around 80...it's a lot of clicking!

Also, if you'd like, you could send me the program for the Karma system, and I could try tweaking it. I've taken a few programing courses and would love to be a part of this.

my profile, NS needs to make one like this karma ratings work extremely well, a lot more funcitonal compared to this one. Ns's was writtin terribly, barely goes up and down and a rating of 50? better than 50,000 people out of all members on NS, i doubt it.

1. should be bale to karma no more than 5 people per day

2. cannot karma same person twice

3. only a + or a -

4. start at 0 for everyone

NS coder is terrid.

 
on youtube, for the volume control, there is a little scroll wheel-- digital dial thing. This would be nice for the Karma rating so that you can easily scroll it up or down to higher and lower numbers very quickly. I think only being able to change it slowly, one number at a time, affects peoples decision to rate. Also, being able to quickly scroll through numbers would produce much more polar ratings which would affect the average rating at a greater rate, so we would start to see some actual results build up quite quickly. It doesnt feel like Im doing anything by rating someone a 49/51 or even 45/55 for that matter. If I could quickly set a little digital dial to 10, or 90, or 75. or whatever, I would be much more inclined to use the Karma system.
 
i think they didnt put that there so people wouldnt jsut instantly give someone a 0 for no reason

but that would be nice to have
 
Three major changes are going to happen with the Karma rating in the next two weeks. (Finally we've got time to fix it!)

-Your karma rating will be displayed in all your posts

-In every post you make, comment, and a few other spots, there will be the + and - buttons. This will make it so that you can say "Oh, that was a good post. +1 karma."

-The weighting will be adjusted to take user ratings into account much more seriously.

 
yah if it was centered around 50, a lot of times that would bring your score down. like nomensteven said, it should be +1 to your current rating, and not 50
 
i thought that i would start out at 50? but i've been at 49 since the karma was first installed...and i haven't done anything negative i don't think?

there must have been plenty of people who have rated anon.ymous a zero, yet he is still at 51?

on the other hand, some guy that makes a lame thread gets neg karma from 10 people and ends up at 45?
 
i like the idea of karma and think it makes a lot of since. if anyone is ever lookin at the trick tips in forums, i think it'll help knowing who is actually giving valuable advice, instead of just listening to someone whoe probably can't do the trick themselves.
 
I think its a good idea, people should treat other people with more respect, there's just no point in gettin all defensive about dumb stuff

i have been a member for like a year and half, and i am pretty active an i have like the same count as you
 
wow that really helps in understanding it better. i don't think you should take away the post count because if you have a thread about how to do something or need help with something, and someone with 15 posts comments and then someone with 1000 comments and they are different you know who to trust. but that is just my opinion.
 
yea i started at 44, i must've made a dumb first post, but i've gotten up to 45 through being a good buyer/seller, but i'm stuck at 45 now
 
First of all, you don't get a C minus for a 50% in school. I don't know where you went to school, but it must have been easy as fuck.

Second of all, newschoolers.com is a waste of time. YOU could be skiing, or a thousand other things than be on a website with 5000 stupid ass people that complain and bitch.

haha, i post on here about one day every 6 months or so and i have 50,000 karma points!?
i have no clue what this is, but its funny, i have never sent anyone else karma
