KARMA SYSTEM 101!

are you going to be able to tell if there are kids out there who automatically just give negative karma to everyone? because i can see that as a possibility

First off this is site discussion, NOOB.

oh no, is my karma going to go down for calling a mod a noob? ZOMG!. Honestly i dont really see the point of this even after reading all of the thread. Im with nomensteven on this. I have my own opinions of other people; i am not a robot, i do not need to have a number to tell me what to think of someone. I hope no one gets attached to this, even though i know people will. Judging someone buy a number is just like seeing a black person and saying "he is going to steal something" you are being prejudice and its pretty shitty.
 
hey can you guys please make it so that when we rate somebody for karma, it doesn't refresh the entire window? it gets really annoying and takes really long to rate somebody further down or further up when it refreshes entirely like that.

yea I like this. I really like the idea of taking post count off and just leaving it in the profile
 
Wow from what I have seen so this is a very interesting approach to a rating/karma system. I dont frequent alot of forums but NS has been one that consistently gets better keep up the efforts THANKS!

It will eventually change to being like your rating of a member is affected by how you rate their actions around the site. So each time you rate one of their threads/posts or something like that it will affect your rating of that member.
 
Well, they just make people post useless junk. I bet there are more than a couple thousand posts that are under three words long on this site. Too many times I see someone reply with "haha". Thanks for that. It gets worse when people do that over and over just so they have something to use as an e-status symbol... it sounds ridiculous and stupid but it happens constantly on here. I'd like to do away with post count altogether, but we're not at that stage yet.
 
Post Count used to indicate a person who contributed a lot to the site and had e-matured on NS, not anymore. When Karma is perfected, hopefully people will look at a member's karma as opposed to their post count when deciding whether or not that person is worthwhile.
 
Well there are two things that a post count symbolizes that ARE useful:

1) how much you're on the site

2) how long you've been on NS(you can't possibly post 4000 times in one month without being an idiot and being banned/karma being lowered severely)

If the post count is placed in the profile replacing the karma and the karma goes public onto the forums/comments and such, then that would eliminate the post count problem and show everyone what a good/bad member you are with a nice round number.
 
honestly who looks at a postcount to see if somebody is worth reading or not,, i dont understand why everybody makes such a big deal about postcount

I figure we just have karma be out there in the forums, just like post count now, and put post count only in the profile. I'd like to keep it. It has a certain symbolic lack of lifeness to it.

goog post, answered all of my questions considering the link does not work, i think the karma system is a good idea and hopefully it will prgress and stay
 
no the banning doent solve any thing people just get a new name i mean maybe im not a serrious ns user but i thought it was a place for skiiers to have funa and keep up on the skiing world
 
i think that this is a prety rad new thing on newschoolers and i hope it will help tel the people a part
 
definately a good system. who came up with the concept/program?

im really sick of people posting all the time and ending up with alot of dumb posts over a short period of time
 
Nopoles and the admins! The staff (mods etc) gave input on what we'd like to see and then the big guys came up with the system.
 
Really cool, and sorry if it's been answered already, but if it has, i musta missed it: Does anyone know when the Peer karma will show up anywhere?

I haven't changed since two days after they implemented it...it's kind of weird. I started at 57, went up to 63, then went down to 59 all in 2 days and here I am now.
 
it seems weird, cuz you could have 10 people give you 85s. and you get.......a 51. but its no big deal, we are SUPPOSED to be on here to talk about skiing anyways, not your karma rating
 
this is a sick idea! i think that the karma should be put WITH the post count. that way you can see if buddy has positive feedback and how much posts aswell. also i dont want to go into peoples profiles just to give them a rating. that takes too long cuz my computer isnt that fast. i think there should be an adjuster bar by the persons name on the forum. that will make it hassle free and easy.

i just hope it doesn't take away from the funnyness of newschoolers because most of the things i laughed at were mean posts
 
just an idea, if you have recently joined you shouldnt be able to adjust someones karma by that much. or if your post count is under a certain number you cannot adjest someones karma by that much either.

this is just so you cannot just make a new a account and raise your post count, or lower others.
 
i like the new karma system, im glad it has made its way into things. i just hope my complete boredom does not shoot me in the foot. though i don't think it will. im just around here lots.
 
how do you enter the karma rating i kno how to get it up and down but i dont kno what you do after you got it at the spot you want it (say i want 70 what do i do when i got the rating up to 70)
