i was wondering does everyone who adds or decreases karma for someone make a difference to the person? like if i decrease someone's karma or increase it, does it actually do anything? because everyone says there going to -karma yauch for example but he's still at like 48. so if i dropped it to 0, should it go down a point or two? not sure if this made sense
 
I dunno. It takes a lot of people to raise. Doesn't seem to take a lot to lower. The more people that use karma, the more it will change, but peer-to-peer voting is only part of the system.
 
i knew this thread would be about me. Maybe some people agree with some of the things i say but dont want to say them themselves for fear of getting flamed. All you bitches who hate me all you do is bitch how my karma should be lower, your that fucking pathetic you waste time writing up a fucking thread because your upset that my karma is higher than you think it should be. yep thats what that thread said. and many many respectable members on this website have a much lower karma than they should, which is odd. red names or maybe mods should be able to edit the karma score.
 
you got to use it for it to work. Periodically I will go through certain threads and move the ratings I have already given up or down or assign peeps I haven't some type of score. Everyone do that every so often and should see some movement.
 
Yeah I do that too. I tend to give and take away karma for thread creators. Like Pman13 who posted the video of the reporters getting owned. Hilarious, that got + karma.
 
Same. I get frustrated when I don't see any immediate change, so there's no in between for me. Either 10 or 0
 
Right, and then maybe down the line, you see this person make a post you don't agree with, you knock it down some. You gotta use it to help it work.

And it's not just user ratings that effect it.
 
but what do you feel is a beneficial karma bump going +1 over default or going right up to 10?

or do you vary it in between based upon the significance of the post?
 
yeah..basically how beneficial it is to me + how other people will benefit from it..ill rate it accordingly.

and if someone posts something ignorant, usless, posts the same thing multiple times ill give negative karma according to how stupid/annoying it is.

also if i PM someone asking a question about something. give them + karma for help and - karma for no response.

i dont think karma should be based off how funny someone is, but how much they contribute to the site.
