++KARMA++ for some good ideas

So, i happened to find three pieces of steel pipe each being 10 feet long and 1 inch diameter.

The problem is, im not really sure how to use these to make a sick jib.

Anyhow, i figured the best place to find out how to best use these pipes, of course, was Newschoolers.

So, what i need to know is:

1: is a wooden frame similar to those used for pvc rails my best option or should i look into something else?

2: im thinking that i should put all three rails parallel next to each other to make a tripple barrel rail,... Good/bad idea, any other options?

3: what is the best way to attach the rails to a long 2x4 or 4x4? i was thinking about drilling through and using a screw / washer combo, one on each end of each rail. is there anything easier or better to do?

thanks, and remember ++KARMA++ to anybody who helps!

my friend had a couple steel pipes in his yard and we drilled through one then attached it to a wooden frame by drilling through the bottom and putting washers on. we did this on the two far opposite sides so we could get the washers in then drilled through the top for the center and put washers on other side of frame.

the i's are where we put the screws. the = is the rail. the - is the frame

i would make a double barrel then use the other for some sort of stall a triple would take too long and isnt much different from a double. and bring it to 7 springs they could use some more rails ;)

thanks and 10/10 karma

i think that the screws coming up from the bottom and washers inside the pipe are probably the best choice. I really dont want to have any holes in the top of the rail so thats probably the best choice.

and 7springs could deff use some more rails, so much for 7th and park huh?

if i were you i would bring it to a welding/repair type shop and have them weld it to a metal frame....and i would either go single barrel or double, i wouldnt go triple because, well thats just me but anyway itll be a sick jib...good luck with it

yeah, ill probably go double and just go get one more pipe from where i got the other three so i can just make two doubles so i have more options.

single is not really an option because the pipe is only 1.5" where most hand rail is 2.5" so it would be way to thin.

well, I live close to a development where they had a small soccer field. the goals were made of pvc pipe and nobody used them and one eventually broke and fell over. the scavenger i am i went to take the pvc from the fallen goal and as i was taking the top crossbar off a metal pipe slid out from the inside. turned out that the middle crossbar and rear cross bar also had pipes inside of them too. so i took the three pipes. i checked and the other goal also has the pipes inside of it so i gan get three more 10' pipes if i need them. the best part, all for free!

unfortunately theyre in 5 foot sections, i thought they were 10 feet when i first saw them but they're jointed 5 foot sections so ill just be content with 6 new 10' steel pipes.

I would probably make a double barrel because the frame is much easier to build. You can easily screw 2 of those pipes to a 10 foot 2x3 or a 2x4 if you want. 2x3's are less expensive and work just as well if you want to lessen the cost of your setup.

good luck with whatever you decide to do.

If you do screw it down, which you prolly shouldn't use the L frame things as said above, you should defiantly screw it down on more then both ends i would recommend at least three points screwed down otherwise it will wobble a ton. also if you have access to a welder that should be you number 1 choice. and also i would say that you shouldn't use all three parallel cuz then it would only be ten feet which kinda sucks. unless you're looking for a box type thing whereas that would work fine to have all three next to each other.

a triple barrel rail would be great. but you could weld the pipes to each other then make a thirty foot rrail for like spinng and stuff.

the washer and bolt will be thing would be your best bet. spray some wd40 on the bolts so they don't rust and will seize up. then if you ever want to take them apart you can still unscrew the bolts.

if you want stability and longer life, make your whole frame out of 4x4. may be a pound or so heavier, but totally worth it. make sure you use 3 inch decking screws. they are the perfect length and won't rust as they are ment for the outdoors.

hope this helps

how about a down flat down or 2 10ft sections that way you could make dfd fdf ufd ufu elbow so many thins i think that would be the best thing to do
