Karma 185 or Vicious 189 For....

I know there are probably similar posts so sorry. Alright, so which one for mostly all around big mountain in Colorado. These will be my only skis, so I will be wanting to use them for ski mountaineering too. One of my main concerns is the balance between hardpack turning repsonse and powder performance. Anybody know from experience how the Karmas handle powder or how the Vicious is expected to handle hardpack? One last thing- I want to be able to not die in moguls, so the 189 is kinda intimidating even though it is only an extra 4cm. Thanks.

Oh yeah I am 5'11'' and 175 so I am pretty confident about the length.

I would say the karma because of experience, it is stiff enough but not too stiff, a good overall balance of stiffness for everything you described, I haven't ridden the vicious so I couldn't help you with that, but I would go with the karma.

I would go with the 189 SV, but really both those skis are sick and will do well in CO.

so...maybe get the ski that is cheaper and throw on a nice set of race stock bindings?

Have you considered the 184 mantra?

If you have a line on 185 karmas for a decent price let me know, by the way. I know someone who would kill for this info.

^I haven't really and maybe it should be on this list too. I guess as far as the Matra goes it is in the same boat with the Vicious. THe 184 length is appealing though.....And sorry to say, I don't have info on whear to find Karmas for cheap.

Is the mantra expected to be as stiff as the vicious/karma? I just read a quick review saying that it handles pretty well on hardpack/crud. Thanks for the info JD.

It's not a noodle at all, and it's been called by some testers the single greatest ski ever created. Basically it's a do-everything fat ski that surpasses the Karma in versatility. Vicious has a pair, I suggest you ask him for further details. If I was going to own just one ski, performance wise, that would be it.

Ok so I have done some more research on the Mantras. It would be good if I had enough money to buy the Karmas AND Mantras/Vicious. Unfortunately I do not, and that is an issue. I don't want tips diving on an epic pow day, but I don't want something that can't handle other conditions seen on most days. I have some freinds that love to go hit really steep moguls, and in the past I have always gone along, so this will be a hard decision to make. The 184 length is much more appealing than the 189, but realistically, how well can you expect something with a waste in the 90's to handle bumps...not that well from what I understand. Thanks again for the recomendation JD, it really got me thinking. Please if anybody else has advice on this issue I would greatly appreciate it.

i know that volkl makes some really nice skis. idk much about the vicious

if we had more people like ATLANTASKI the world would be a better place.

Why aint the Madtrix Mojo mensioned? those are the sickest allround ski ever!!! See how deep powder, and park/pipe Jon Ollson is riding in the new movie from Teddybeercrisis!

he`s floating well in maby 1,5meters powder man, and at the same time do a Switch Cork 7 Nose, on a bigjump.

just one word: Sick motherfucking skis!

all of the skis mentioned here are good picks. like this kid said above^, the mojo is a good pic too. light and stiff. you should really consider the Armada JP/ Juliens and that other 191cm Armada ski. to lazy to remember the name. those are good picks. basiclly you cant go wrong with a fat ski. really....you cant.

If you want a ski to do everything and you really like to do bumps I would suggest going more with the Karma. The Vicious and Mantra are great in crud and more solid conditions, but you said you want something to ski bumps with as well. The Karma would allow you to ski bumps easier than the Mantra. I loved the Mantra and can ski bumps with them, but you really can not do zipperline bumps with a ski that is 94mm or 98mm in the waist.
