any idea how this works? Is it a sticker or do they send off topsheets that are pressed? I can't figure it out from their site.

It says it's not a sticker, but it seems like it is, just clear, with the graphics printed on the backside under the sticky so it's protected.

either way, kinda cool

As far as I remember, they get the the ski already pressed from their designated company list with a minimal clear topsheet, they then put their design over and finally repress it to seal the graphic on.
This may not be 100%accurate as I was talking to one of their guys in french about it, and i ain't super super hot with it.

Hello
I am Jean-Marie from KaOrigin.
Just wanted to provide you with details about KaOrigin and our patented technology :
KaOrigin sell on-demand customisation of sport equipments from recognised and appraised brand-manufacturers (skis, snowboards, helmets, and soon mountain bikes, Wakeboards, kiteboards, ...) with its own KaOrigin-patented technologies so the decorated equipments are fully compliant with the brand-manufacturer's original technical standards (high definition image, same behaviour, same wear resistance, 7 days delivery, no minimum order quantity):
Kaorigin is not a Band, but the community where both interests for sports matreials and design meet (see www.kaorigin.com and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za-30PFDHhA&feature=related ). You can choose your design in a independant designers's colection, or come up with your own creation that you will also be able to share with friends from August on.

Tehcnology is so:
- for boards or skis, we decorate topsheets just the same way as manufacturers would do (sublimation or direct lazer print), and we keep a stock of standard skis from the manufcaturers except for they have no topsheet on. We assemble the topsheet just before shipping to the customer, so eventually the skis rigourously match the manufacturers's standards. Skis are eventually the same as standards ones when it comes to skiing or time alteration
- for helmets, mountain bikes and so on, we have another three-dimentional technology

Corporate wise, here is what you might want to know:- KaOrigin is a star-up started in September 2007,which, has raised its share capital through private investment up to 383 k€ in April 2008, and will raise funds within the next 18 months.
- The company has been one of the 2007 prizewinner of the French Network support for corporate creation "Reseau Entreprendre" (www.reseau-entreprendre.org/ ).
