On a positive note.
Candide Thovex is such an awesome all round skier.. its pretty amazing to watch...Him an Jon Olson have to be the most versatile freestylers.
Like Jon is awesome at big mountain and does FIS races.

"someone may have linked to it before" ? dude its Candide Camera this is like someone reposting Chug life and saying its some sick footage from Canada

Yeah I just found out about these guys and was pretty impressed, I guess I've just been stuck hearing about Simon, THall, Tom Walsh, Tim Durtschi and all the american guys

as far as insane ski ignorance goes, this is the worst. but at least you picked a good one to repost. candide = allah. and allahu akbar.

I didn't think I'd be on NS long enough to see a thread posting Candide as just some "sick European footage." I feel fucking old.

so if i really understand you've never heard of candide?????????i don't know how old are you but the thing is you like freesking but you don't even know about the history about freeskicandide is a legend he's been around forever he was with the fisrt generation of freeskier
i wish you kids knew a little bit more about your sport cause it's annoying when people come and just talk about wallish and co ( no hate on tom and all the others)but it would be great if you could know a little bit more about the pionneer of our sport

Someone should take the time out to write a basic history on skiing and sticky it forever. Or just make it required reading before they can post.

well put. im 17, and know pretty much everything that has happened the last 5 year. but i also know whats happened earlier. Candide was my favorite skier back then, i remember how often i would see his clips in skifilm.no films and rastafaride.

i guess this is whats happening now that skiing is becoming mainstream and all, young kids get trown into the mix with tall tees, tom wallisch, henrik harlaut, g-suits and magic suits. i mean, Wallisch get so much attention. Here in norway i believe he's the one with the most influence on regular kid, before PK and Andreas. Also, when Shane passed no one i know who described themselves as skier knew about either him or his passing. I went to this premiere for MSP - In Deep and some kids who only skis park where booing during Shanes part. Shit almost made me go off.

i guess its inevitable with the evolvement skiing is going through. so many up-comers, its hard to keep up for some.

Still though, it's Candide. You remember how stoked you were when you watched him fucking SLAY the x games slope course in 07? I do, I got chills watching that.

Actually, I'm just going to post it.

I love Kandide. His Koreupt promodel Kouldn't be any Kooler. Kan't wait to see what he Komes out with this season. Kool vid too. ++++++C

By all means, i believe that Candide is a legend! And i was beyond stoked when i watched the x-games slope in 2007. Its just that i grew up with Candide, Andreas and Shane. Kids these days grow up with casabon, harlaut, wallisch and durtschi. Im just saying that for people who came into the sport during the last two years is not that interested in what happend 3-5 years ago.

yeah and this is what is really sad kids don't even care about the story of freeski and what is more sad is that story is not even long!!! it's less than 20 years so don't tell me they can't learn a little about it
that what make me feel sad and pissed cause sometime they talk about people they don't know or just forget people who help so much the sport to bring it where is it right now

candide is basically why i am here today, and i say it with slight resentment but it was when he was in charge back in the day that skiing was at its finest. even the mini-dvd that came with the rossingnol scratch's in 2005 made me jizz. i would trawl the internet for hours trying to find his latest edit and when i eventually watched the opening segment of whappen it blew my mind. candide is the man.
for the unwise, buy: http://www.thebookofcandide.com/

Yeah, same guy, won the X-games back in 2003 with that run. Candide has a tendency to stay in the background a lot of the time I think, then come out and do some of the gnarliest things ever. From the d-spin 7 over Chad's back in 2000 (?), to the huge cork 5 over the hip in Superpark 4, to the 810 to rail in 2005, and more.

(But pipe skiers, some at least, do go as big, or bigger today though. The highest air Candide had on that run was 17ft I think, while Dumont went 20ft out on that huge 9 in the X-games, this year or last.)

This is like saying, "Yo, I just found out about this Larry Bird guy, he is soo good! I only hear of DWade and Chris Paul, but I've never heard of this Bird character!!"
cmon man Candide is one of the true pioneers of this sport!

im with you but your fighting a uphill battle dude, if its not constantly in the forums the 16 year olds don't care

That video is amazing! got me pumped to get out there again! cant believe i havent seen that! he absolutley kills those lines and hits! 4:12 is soooo sick! such a change in style from what i remember from him....

the man is an absolute legend of our sport, total shame that many kids out there dont/wont know about him, this thread should be a lesson to everyone out there just how much guys like this killed and progressed the scene in the early days and are the main reason its the way it is now...

some of his earlier segments were amazing, left me speachless... One of the guys who first got me stoaked on park skiing and away from the big mountain. Everyone should see this from one of the ski movies (high society maybe?):

I'm looking at age 35 come january... I use to ski in a one pice suit with a nice belt and yellow knees before you were born and you need to know history - Lurent speeks the trouth.

look at this a true master at work:

I think you misunderstood me, I'm agreeing with Laurent, I was just annoyed that he was stereotyping 16 year olds by saying they don't care about freeskiing history.

Stop it! You're cilling me.

I may be on crack but didn't he win an espy of something like that for some huge gap that he rodeoed. I remember seeing footage of some gap that Thovex killed and it wasn't Chad's I don't think, because I remember him landing pretty much right next to a tree. Anyone know what the hell I'm talking about?

Candide Kamera is my fav edit i get goose bumps when ever i watch it candide is by far one of my fav skiers.

i was on powdermag.com today and actually saw that there is now a candide photo table photo book type deal out...seems pretty freaking ill. its 10 years of pictures of candide and others who crossed the main photoG's path. check it out! would be such a banger gift for a die hard skier fe sho

action sports have a tendency to do that. it sucks because this is happening now with the new explosion in popularity so all kids are seeing are the new movies or whos in the comps. strange and really sad to think people who pioneer the sport are being forgotten about before they even turn 30.

Candide IS freeskiing. From Chad's gap to out-boosting the snowboarders in the X pipe (blew everyone's minds at the time), to his switch 10 to win the X slope a few years later (i had to watch it like 10 times to convince myself it wasn't a 7)...not to mention his epic SMIII segment, one of the best of all time. He is THE man. Cork 810 to rail when no one was doing stuff like that, ripping the backcountry and doing park tricks off everything (see:rastafaride/pull-up films movies) at a level most guys don't even match today.
