K2 Reckoners 102 for Backcountry

Hey im in search for a new ski. Its going to be a single ski setup for backcountry / short to medium long tours and maybe 20-30% On piste.

My location will mainly be the northern part of Austria.

I like skis with a softer flex so I came across the Reckoner 102. However on this site the ski seems to be mainly advertised as a park ski. Could you tell me weather it is still a viable backcountry ski?

Note im new to Freeride skiing so any recommendations for other skis is also appreciated.

Also for guys who go backcountry skiing in Austria, do you think thw reckoner is viable here or should I go with a more directional Ski?

I Mostly ski the northern part of Austria, short version is you’re gonna be completely fine.never actually skied the reckoner but I toured a lot on the Vision 108 and Bentchetler 120 both did great. The reckoner sounds pretty god on paper maybe not the best float in pow, but many people here tour on way skinnier skis and rip. Regarding more directional skis: hugely depends on your style and stance and what you’re used to,the Bc120 was a bit to forward for my style so I mounted again at -2. Are you only gonna be out when the conditions are powdery? Do you wanna ski the steeps?

Oh interesting that u ski on the BC120, I always heard its way to wide for our european conditions. Therefore had a look on the BC100 but it looked kinda dull (wich is fine for a Jack of all Trades).

I live in Munich so ill mostly go spontaneously when there are good conditions but since I dont have multiple skis I dont want to go for a too wide powder ski that sucks in other conditions.

My problem is also that i didnt really go skiing that much the last two years due to covid and I dont really know what to expect from the austrian backland because before I usually skied on piste with 90mm Park skis. Will I even be able to exploit the "fun, buttery" nature of the Reckoner 102 off piste or is it even annoying when the conditions get rougher (I cant judge because all my skis til now were on the stiffer end). My alternative for that would be the BC100 or the Volkl Revolt 104.

My goal is not to go on crazy steep mountain sides but rather have a good time on relatively untouched parts of the mountain where a fall doesnt mean I break every bone i have haha.

If you’re not out there for the steeps you’re gonna be fine with something more playful. I also use the Bc120 for Resort duty’s and surprisingly I used it more than any other ski last year. I ski mostly off piste 90% don’t be afraid to go wide if you don’t mind the weight

Thank you, that was really helpful. Something offtopic but would you mind sharing your favorite locations for backcountry skiing in Austria? Since most people here are from the US its interesting to hear some cool spots from locals in my area.

I live in Berchtesgaden DE really nice area if you want some longer Tours. Dachstein is Great in Spring.just really depends on the time and what you want to ski there are also some great books available to get you started or you can look at bergfex.de. If you’re in the area or have any questions just shot me a PM

Haha, now you really make me want to go with the reckoner 112 or BC110 respectively.

Ok I narrowed it down to the Reckoner 112 and the BC110(120). I think the BC110 would be a perfect fit for me but I have an issue with its size. I am 192cm tall and the max length is 188cm for the BC110, whereas the Reckoner112 is 191cm and the BC120 192cm.

The downside of the BC120 is that since it will be my only ski I fear that it might be to wide, the downside of the Reckoner 112 is that it weights about 2050+ grams and that might be a bit to heavy for touring, and lastly the downside of the BC110 is that it is 4 cm shorter than me.

What do you think works best? I know since u own a BC120 yourself u might gravitate towards it but I really like the 110 length.

Reckoner would be way to heavy for my taste depending on the binding ur using. I’m 193 and don’t find the Vision 108 189 to short but the mount is also further back.Kick turns will be easier with a shorter ski. My vote is on the Bentchetler 110/120

Cool thanks again, oh and I probably gonna throw a shift binding on them.
