K2 Poacher or Dynastar Menace 98

I'm new to the forum, but I did some research before signing up. I'm looking for a replacement for 184cm shreditor 92s. I want something that's just as damp and fast through crud, and just as soft and buttery also, but wider. The obvious choice would be a 184cm poacher, but my research on this site from some helpful threads also led me towards the 187cm Dynastar Menace 98. I think the actual lengths should be similar, but the Dynastar is heavier along with having a longer turn radius, leading me to believe it should be better in soft or firm crud, and all mountain.

I don't want to go as long as the 192 Black Ops for a freestyle ski. I tried 188 PB&J and they were very fun, but I want something softer, but heavier and more damp.

Thank you for any recommendations.

I unfortunately can’t speak for the Dynastar Menace, but I know that the Poacher really isn’t a soft ski. I was also looking to buy a soft, playful ski and everyone told me that the poacher was actually quite stiff. So I decided to buy some Line Blends.

Poachers are pretty darn soft compared to true directional chargers, so I guess it's all relative. Line Blends are way too soft for me, that's one of the softest skis I've ever skied. I guess ya, I want a more solid freestyle ski, but not as stiff as the PB&J

I’ve owned the PB&Js and own the Slicers(old Menace 98 top sheet/name) and think they may be what you’re looking for in a ski. They are softer flexing throughout the ski over the PB&J(but still solid) and definitely more playful. Decent amount heavier and more damp feeling but don’t ski heavy or feel too dead.

Menace 98 are very good in crud, in bumps, a bit of new snow as well as decent grip on harder snow groomers. Haven’t been on the 187cm but I’m sure it’s even more stable at speed.

You have about 15 pounds on me and I got a huge deal on last years 181cm but may pick up some 187cm this spring. The 187cm flexes pretty similar and is still a bit lighter than my 186cm Enforcer 104 Free skis which are a nice size for me. I mounted my Slicers 2cm forward of the all mountain line on the 181cm and would go 3cm in the 187cm I think.

Haven’t been on the Poachers but have skied the Shreditor 92 many years ago and thought it was just okay.

Only been on the 182cm Black Ops 98 and prefer the playfulness, crud capability and edge hold of the Menace 98 better. Better sizing too as 192cm is a long ski in the park or bumps.

What's up with this review of the 187cm? He makes it sound like some comp ski.

Saw that video before when another person linked it. Another terminal intermediate skier who can’t carve a turn reviewing skis....shakes head. Lol

Nice! Thanks for helping me decide, I'm going to give the 187 Menace a try. They are dirt cheap.

FYI the 187 is built up a little more than the rest of the sizes, kinda the "pro model" but it's still super fun. im about 5'11" and 200, haven't had any issues buttering, but it's still fun all mountain and on big jumps. the rubber in the tips really helps it bust through crud.
