K2 pettiors or hellbents

I work at a shop so i can pro forum k2 for a greasy deal. Just want some input from people who own these skis. Im mostly worried about the hellbents being too soft for resort skiing, and also has anyone toured on them? how was skinning witht them with the mad rocker and not allot of contact. Im 5'7" skiing for 10 years going to be using them out west mostly resorts and occasionally touring. +k for feedback

The extreme rocker on the hellbents makes them feel like snowshoes when blazing new pow trails on flats or slight uphills, they're really nice to "hike" with in these situations. I don't skin or do serious backcountry so I can't speak to that. The hellbent is definitely softer than the petitor but you can still charge groomers once you get used to them. I prefer the hellbent over the petitor but I like a softer playful ski. You can always make a soft ski charge, but you can't always make a stiff ski play.

sweet thanks for the response. I am leaning towards the hellbents i love a playful ski and i really don't care about groomers haha. +k, If anyone has toured on these skis help me out let me kno how they are

I myself have not toured on them, but my friend has. He's pretty much told me that they're just really heavy. He had them mounted with Barons, and together they were almost 9 pounds/ski. Aside from weight he liked them. I'm Pretty sure he has an account here, so maybe he'll chime in.

Where is your home resort? I can't think of any benefit to the Hellbents of Pettitors at your size, especially if you want to skin. Even here in the PNW, unless you are a big dude, no reason to get the Hellbents.

well I'm from manitoba so my home resort is spring hill... its a ditch, but i go out west 4 - 5 times a year, whistler, red, revy, kicking horse are my go to. what would you recommend from k2's line then, keep in mind I'm short, but i weigh 180 athletic build? the side stashes? Also this is my 2and pair of skis i have some Alpha 1's for the park and shitty snow, so i was thinking going for a straight up pow ski.

thnx +k

If it has to be K2 I would get the Sideseth, great ski and big enough for powder, but small enough waist to handle all other conditions you will encounter. To me, the Hellbent only makes sense if you live in a place like Whistler and will take it out on those 30+ cm days and just stop skiing when it gets tracked out. They are also discontinuing it next year.

i would say petitor, because it will do nearly as well as the hellbent in powder, and better in pretty much all other snow, but you say you like a fun playful ski, so for that reason id say hellbent, especially if this is strictly a powder ski for out west

Coming from someone who owns last year's Hellbents, the Hellbent is completely useless 99% of the time. If you ski from the top of chairlifts most of the time, the Hellbent will be frustrating, heavy, unneccesarily fat, and too soft most of the time. On the other hand, the other 1% of the time is the best few seconds of your life when you stomp a huge drop into bottomless pow.

Conclusion: The idea of the Hellbent is much cooler than actually skiing it. Go for the Petitors!

I've got the Pettitors and they are absolutely awesome. Super stiff underfoot gives them great stability in variable snow, on groomers, and when stomping and the soft tip/tail make them very maneuverable in trees/tight areas, manageable and even playful at times.

You will like the camber underfoot when touring, especially on a steeper slope. IMO the hellbent is just too fat, I like to sink down a little bit in the pow instead of just carving on top the whole time. Also, if the snow gets a little sketchy or you are skinning across some sketchy/windblown area I think you be a lot more confident on Pettitors than the Hellbents. Also, the Pettitors are surprising light for how fat they are.

If I were you I would get the 169 (more like 175), especially if you are touring they will be much lighter. Unless you are sill growing (unsure of your age) then maybe consider the 179 (more like 185), but know they are going to be a chore to get around and a decent amount heavier going up. For reference I am a pretty big dude, 6'5 and around 215 and the 189s are shorter than I am and I find them plenty stable.

Good luck with the decision!

thanks so much for the feedback guys, I went with the pettiors skied them for the first time today and they blew my mind suuuuper stoked on them. +k for all! you were very helpful!
