Justin Dorey

I think that as the new season approaches Justin Dorey has made it clear to everyone, that this could be the first time in years that we don't see Tanner or Dumont at the top of the podium. I'm looking forward to seeing how next year goes for pipe, because it's progressing like crazy. Dorey now has a double flip (which is like 25 feet out, and stomped), he can do everything both ways (i.e. flat-spin 3's & 5's, 9's, switch 7's, and even both 10's and switch 10's)! This isn't to say he is just a pipe jock though, he's got doubles on jumps, sick spins on jumps (both ways obviously), and he can hold his own on rails too. If I were you I would make sure to get him on your fantasy freeride team, 'cause he's sure to be a profitable investment... Yada da mean?! I'm sure everyone is thinking this, but what are your guys thoughts on the one and only J-Bone?

i want to see a vid of his double flatspin on the jumps (anyone have WSI footage from qualis or practice?)

Here's the pipe footage of the NZ Open. Girls are first, and then they have the top three mens runs. Dorey absolutely killed it. Check it out!!!

That pipe double is so perfect! I think he will for sure replace Dumont in pipe in the coming season, but I think Tanner still has another year or two of pipe domination. Tanner just has the experience and knows how to get it done in big comps.

i agree. i think he's going to bring a lot to the table this season, a lot of our other favourites are hard-pressed to show us something we haven't seen before too, i think that freeskiing in general is going to blow up like mad this season.

agreed. I can't believe the level of tech tricks, and style thats been going on in NZ this year. Dorey's new double (with the rest of his skiing), and the boom edits have suprised me a lot. Skiing is progressing so fast in NZ this year. This winter is going to be crazy.

I for one would love to see someone break up the tanner / simon domination of the top 2 podium spots, especially if that person is Dorey. But don't think T-hall is standing still either, he'll have an even better run next year. From the NZ boom edits it looks like he'll keep the 1st hit switch 10 but he's tossing a few shiftys into some spins, which is just fuckin' rad. Should be a good show.

Yeah Tanner is definitely still a major force in the pipe skiing front, despite the fact that yes, Dorey will give everyone a run for their money. But Tanner has 12's, switch 10's, double flips, both way 9's, and is one of the first people really taking style to the pipe contests.

Keep in mind he can ski lines, stomp large 180s off cliffs, and land in the deeeeeep on booters liek no other. My opinion: Best skier in the world. No joke. Also, the most down to earth dude you've ever met. and my best friend, so fuck you niggas HAHAHHAHA

yea his pipe run in the nz open was one of my favorite pipe runs i've ever seen, and if he puts his double into it, it could be the sweetest pipe run the world has ever seen haha

dorey kills it in every way possible and that double is just sex.

and his mom was my grade 5 teacher and he was friends with my sister(claim!)

fuck it's such a shame pipe isnt in the olympics.

If he can stay consistant he'll beat Dumont for sure. Tanner is going to have to put it down if he wants to win next year.

Dorey should've won NZ open IMO.

I highly doubt that, if he's going to double flip it'll have to be first hit, you can't do that mid run. Even if he doesn't double flip I'd bet on rightside 10 to sw 10 before sw 10 first hit.

i dono both tanner and simon have doubles in the pipe and if they can link those with 12's and huge ally op's then i dono who could top them

i doubt he'll do a double in his run. i think he just did that in the edit to show he can double in the pipe.

and although doreys run was sick, it deffinatly wasnt as nice as tanners.

I'm gonna have to agree on this. Definately watch out for him next season, haven't really had the chance to see him ski that much but whenever I do it's always impressive. and that double is probably the best one I've seen in the pipe

wtf how does he pump the wall like that. he fucking like took off like a rocketship in the last 6 feet of that pipe, fucking huge.

I apologize, but you are retarded. I have seen a right 9, left 9, ally oop flat 5, right ally oop, ally oop flat 3, cab 7, ally-oop 9 in contest. I've seen that. What I haven't seen is BOTH ally oop flat 3s, BOTH switch 7s, and BOTH 9s. All oozing with style. That my friends is progression.

And no one can deny Dorey's double was 100x better then any of the ones you saw from Tanner's videos. He easily could've boosted another hit out of that. Perfect transition.

Dorey for the win. All season.

With the tricks GKenworthy has listed that he has, Dorey could go double flip, right 10, switch 10, right 9, ally-oop flat 3, switch right 10, left 10. or same run with a right ally oop flat instead of right 10 second hit.

THAT IS INSANE!!!!!!!!!!

looks like everyone down in new zealand is looking to add that extra flip into their run. not hating but everyone needs to stop assigning flips to people. the flip dorey did is the same one pete did 2 years ago same one tanner did like a week ago. no one thought it was cool when pete was doing them but now that everyone in nz is doing them theyre pretty much awesome huh? not.

bigger, cleaner, smoother, grabbed. both tanner and dorey land nicely at the top of the tranny, not crooked at the bottom. just they look way better. though i thought pete's flip as pretty cool at the time, though the rest of his run was pretty meh.

compare doreys to petes a few years ago. they arent even in the same category. if you cut doreys dub rght from when he touches the snow...you wouldnt know he did a dub, and he could continue a run just as big down the entire pipe...not the case with peter a few years ago. and no one is assigning flips to anyone, they are jut saying that dorey did a sick one. by saying "doreys double is sick" they just mean the one that dorey did. it doesnt have a name. otherwise they would say "doreys (INSERT RETARDED NAME HERE) is sick"

wisen up.

Everyone hear that? Ian Cosco has just started a "come up with a retarded name for Dorey's double" contest!

dude dont tell me to wisen up like you know everything. i'm not hating either it was sick and much better than the way pete throws them and such but im just saying people seems to be assigning people to double flips. it was happening two or so years ago when jon was inventing new ones and doubles were controvesial and new to the scene. now people just kinda get into the mindset that people invent double flips and they are the product of the creator. but now that doubles are more known and such and pretty much here to stay in main stream competition i feel like they should just say oh wow justin dorey stomed that whiskey flip.

i find the term wisen up funny. and to be honest, i am thuroughly enjoying the fact that people arent calling it a whiskey flip. and no one is saying dore created it, thats what i was establishing in my last post. the only person who is taking doubles in as there own is jon. and i dont agree with it personally. the "DJ Flip" was done by jacob a year earlier, and it was rightuflly named what it is, a double cork. the "hexo flip" he did first, but it is a switch double cork 10, and the "kangaroo" he did first, but it is a double flat 9. those are the only doubles that have been named by its "creator". i think names are stupid, just call them what they are. if ou read my last post thuroughly, i state that no one is saying its doreys double, they are saying the double dorey did was sick.

alright makes sense. it just seems that when a pro throws a double flip everyone thinks that it is new and tries to figure out what it is only to realize its been done before. maybe not quite to that magnitude but definitely done before.

Dorey is just proving that he is seriously one of the most well rounded and talented skier in the industry.

He wasslaying rails and bc jump when he focused on filming was good at pipe and then decided to get on comp schedule and just got the craziest stuff ever.

I tought his nz open run was the best pipe run of 2008 by decent margin.
