Justifying an HMC40

Hey all,

I'm looking to buy a Panasonic HMC40. I wanna use it to film some skiing and maybe some family stuff. I'm also going to europe this summer, so I'll be using it alot then.

I'm kind of low on funds and my dad said he'd be willing to pay for some, but he thinks that an HMC40 is a bit overkill. He thinks that Im gonna use it for like a month and then it'll be sitting on my shelf without being used. What can I tell my dad to justify him paying some money for the cam.

Thanks NS

i like the look of 24, but having the option of 60 is pretty sick for slowing stuff down a little bit

yeah I read your post that just ripped on this camera. its nothing special if you compare it to the 150 or other cameras like that, but its a low cost alternative for people like me who dont have the cash to buy a 150 but still want pro-level features

Dude, don't get an HMC40 to travel around europe. You will NEVER take it out with you. trust me. I travelled around europe for a few months, and i was hesitant even to take my 40D out. Filming vacations is pointless. It's going to be a bunch of stupid shakey handheld footage of you and your family/friends waving at the camera in front of the eiffel tower or something. Just go enjoy yourself and make some memories, and save the money for booze.
