I just started playing acoustic guitar hoping to learn soem songs and maybe even change to electric. But I need some easy songs to play and some websites or forums that helped you guys that play guitar. I can play a few chords and know how to play wild thing, but I'm sick fo playing wild thing for 20 mins a day untilmy next guitar lesson

ok lets see, if you want lessons, tabs, and help from forums check out ultimate-guitar.com

for tabs go to 911tabs.com

download powertab or guitar pro (powertab is free, guitar pro you'll have to use limewire or a torrent)

but the best thing you could do is GET A TEACHER! you do not understand how much faster you can learn stuff with a teacher, every week you are getting better and better. if you seriously, and i mean seriously, cant find a teacher buy a guitar book. go to your local music store and ask what the people reccamend. right now im using The Guitar Cookbook. im more of a technique guy, so i practise chords and scales more than actual songs. but if you ever find yourself bored with guitar, just look at your music playlist and pick out a song you wanna learn, download the tab, and play it.

by the way, when i started off, i went on about.com and searched up guitar and they have a little week by week lesson program which is alright. i'd start there if i were you. go on the ultimate-guitar forums if you need more help, they know what theyre doing.

Thanks. I'm not very good at reading tabs. I have a teacher but I only meet with him once a week for an hour so in about a day I can do pretty much everything he teaches me in lessons

one thing my girlfriend's dad (aka guitar teacher) tells me is "you can't build Rome in a day" and "you have to walk before you can run". Also, dude there will be that time when you just want to stop. Don't and just keep playing and you'll eventually get over the struggle and start having fun.

Not, tabs don't tell you the rhythm, but you can just listen to the song. To start just try and find songs that are simple, and learn from there. and keep at it.

get powertab or guitar pro, you can play the notes out to see how its suppose to sound. if your having trouble with strumming ask your guitar teacher. the best thing to do is practice eveyday, and review all your stuff. you also might wanna learn how to alternate pick which is picking up and down notes individual, it'll build up your speed. yeah its hard at first, but it comes naturally. reading tabs is not hard at all, you just gotta picture it like a guitar. each little line/row represent each string, and the number represents what number on the fretboard. so if its on the highest string, thats the thinest E string, if it says 2, then you play the 2nd fret on the high thin string.

dont do this, dont even buy the game. shame on you if anyone buys guitar hero and has a guitar.

exactly, i just taught my self. it works fine if you are dedicated. im just as good as my freinds who have been taking lessons as long as i have been playing. and better than some. just focus and practice

tabs tabs and tabs. It helped me sooo much

and learning to read music might help. it helped me with timing and stuff like that.

www.ultimate-guitar.com

but really dude, make sure you learn how to read music too, tabs are just to quickly learn a song, don't base it off of it.

guitarhero !!!!

once you know how to play "White Side Black Mountain" from Led Zeppelin, lemme know !

Learn a scale. If you can actually get good enough to get through it you will be suprised what else you can play. Plus you can start making up little fills with just a few notes from a scale. Try it out, and don't give up.

I ahven't played guitar hero once i started real guitar. the guy whose giving me lessons is never home so im switch which should help. I've learn a couple parts of songs by teaching myself. thanks for the advice

thats not my point. the thing is it's embarrassing to play guitar hero

for 4 hours while your real guitar is just sitting in a corner doing

nothing. and then u pick up ur real guitar and you cant play shit. you

should be spending that time u play guitar hero, practicing real guitar.

i taught myself and my first song was "Be like that" by 3 doors down...it's a good song because it stays in pretty much the G/C/D chord range...

i taught like 5 other people how to play and i always show them chords first and make them get good at switching from one to another before they learn an actual song....

right now im actually teaching a guy who's played trumpet before and know rhythm and im teaching him "tears in heaven" by clapton............it's his first time playing a guitar ever, and he can play through the entire intro. not well, but he can do it and it sounds like that actual song...just bad.

so just practice hardcore all the time and once your fingers burn, play more! as soon as you get calluses, the sooner you can play nonstop aka practice more!

yea i usually practice for about an hour a day but I'm rnning out of stuff that ic an play. I have a lesson toamrrow which should help. but a quick question on reading tabs and stuff like that. say on ultimate guitar i want to learn yellow submarine and it shows the lyrics like this.

d g

in the town where i was born

those arent correct but any ways. do I play d chord just once or do I strum it to the lyrics and change to g when i get to where?

so go on Youtube and find songs you wanna learn how to play and look up "how to" vids. some are pretty good, helped me anyhow :)

craigstlist.com and kijiji.com

@golf: get powertab or guitar pro 5, it'll play the notes on the tab for you so you know the timing and rhythm rather than just looking at bunch of numbers that might as well mean nothing.

first off, what bands do you like , that way we could give you some good songs to learn that are easy

i like a lot of dmb and that got me into guitar so this was the site for me

if you dont listen to dmb, but like acoustic guitar type stuff, id definitely try and get into dmb, they are a great band, and the dave matthews tim reynolds acoustic stuff is gold, pm me if you want any shows, i have shitloads

http://www.dmbtabs.com/

the tabs are all pretty much spot on and they have a really great forum in there

two step is a pretty sweet song, and is not that hard to play

http://www.dmbtabs.com/song.php?sid=24

if you arnt good at tabs like you said before, you can just start by playing the G and E notes with just 2 fingers and move on to the A when you have gotten more comfortable

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjVSwN-2z_A play along with that

if guitar is the first instrument you have played it will probably be hard to get down the strumming and beats but just try and start out playing with a song with the chords, not the main beat. Even your favorite songs that may be really hard have chords that can be played over it to practice. Just get a tab, put on your favorite song, and play over it. Just playing something that sounds lame by itself will sound a whole lot better, and make a whole lot more sense while playing it over the real song. It will give you more confidence, keep you playing the right tempo, and will make you keep going if you make a mistake.

Neil Young is a really good player, and some of his songs arnt hard, you have to get used to his voice though haha

also im not a huge beatles fan but ladies love their beatles, especially blackbird

a good guitar website is www.ulitmiate-guitar.com

it has tabs, chords, and bass. really good, and u can search songs/band names and look at a specific song u like and get stuff. very fascinating

Well I don't listen to much acoutstic music but I think I'm getting an electric for xmas anyways. I used to be obsessed with dmb and I have evr song memorized so maybe I'll try some of dave's stuff. I also like the beatles which I learned day tripper and I like alot of classic rock but most of the stuff I listen to is electric.

you'll have more fun with an electric, but having an acoustic is a good idea too. there are some songs that should only be played on acoustics and they sound amazing.

go to youtube and type in easy guitar songs, there's this guy named justin and it's really easy learning shit from his videos. highly recommend it

Yes, learn as many scales as you can. That will help with finger dexterity and teach you where each note is on the fretboard so you can come up with your own stuff more easily. And play with your eyes closed.

go to guitarworld.com, awesome site, helps you learn how to solo and learn your basic scales from which you can rock out to different types of guitar (blues, blues-rock, metal, etc. etc.)

I quit lessons and was just trying to play songs that sounded cool and i learned the penatonic and blues scale. I have a broken arm now so its impossible to play. I didn't think I would miss playing this much.
