you guys make a very good point saying that no matter how many 'posers' and little shit head stuck up rich boys enter our sport in years to come you gotta just keep doin what your doin because you love it.

but its hard to ignore and something has to be done when the time comes. right now skiing is unspoiled. its at its peak in the skier's minds cuz its progressing every time somebody clicks in but its still low key so its like our own thing. thats what makes most people freeski. theres nothing wrong with falling in love with a sport becasue its not as exposed as others and you wanted to be different. thats what its all about.

now be honest here.you see ten snowboarders sitting down watching another snwoboarder jump. the one jumping does a flailing 180 with no grab and barely lands and the group of boarders sitting down all start laughing and ripping on the kid in the worst way. then one of them goes up and doesnt do any better. doesnt that just rub you the wrong way? is that how you want our sport to be? i dont know about you guys but thats just not cool, even if it doesnt bother you. its still there and its fucked up because it tottaly breaks down the unity of people that participate in the sport. i dont see many skiers rippin on people for doin a sloppy trick they are just learning. most skiers help eachother out and are always pushing eachother. and we all need to keep it that way and stop talking trash about everybody cuz we dont want to end up like 80 percent of the snowboarders out there now do we? when little 'poser' kids come into our sport, dont hate. just encourage and show some respect and mabye you will receive some and they will spread it around as well. its all about unity and repsect on the mountain and skiing will stay where it is right now amongst the real riders no matter how much it blows up. im out

i know what the reason for snowboarding getting so popular, first of all its easy, second of all its image...but the biggest reason is the skiers fault, not you or me, but PSIA ski instuctors...they teach young kids to ski in a pizza wedge, is there any fun too that? so they see the snowboarders having a good old time haging with thier boyz and none of them are really good but they have the image, with skiing its not really about the image.

i like it the way it is now, if skiing turned into the way boarding is now, i would switch to boarding. i dont want all the poser fags skiing and shit. and it would make us all look like we are following the crowd, i ski to be away from this image. everyone snowboards, and thats the way it is. when i say i was at nashoba i want people to ask me if i snowboard so i can say i ski. its what makes us, well us.

i totally agree with what your saying the one thing that just pisses me off is when u get kids on skis who are bad, but wont admit it and go around telling people that there so good, but then make excuses as to why they cant show anythin good to u, we got only a few kids like that where i ski, but anyways im gettin off topic and u made a lot of good points

how about who the fuck cares what everyone else is doing.. I try not to get involved in these threads, all I know is that every time I go skiing I want to progress at my own merit. I can't remember not skiing in my life, and I would never base my decision to ski on what everyone else is doing..

well said paul. Everyone is tearing each other down rather than helping. I see stupid threads on here about 'which ski is better', etc, 'what should I do in the off-season for training' and think they are stupid. Then I remember that I was that guy once posting stuff that seemed obvious but wasn't to me. So word, let's get each others' backs and keep the sport going in a positive direction.

with the point our sport is at, we can't afford to make it worse; give it a bad name; or make it so people don't want to join it, or think poorly of it. We need to support each other and the core companies because we all support the sport.

the reason that doesnt happen in skiing is because everyone is still learning how to do these tricks. snowboarding has been around long enough that everyone knows the tricks and its all been established. give skiing a few more yrs, then start complaining cause then it will have lost its soul. until then, enjoy what we have, i know i have for the last 6 yrs

i agree with kevin a few posts up...who knows where skiing is gonna go? none of us do, but we all know that its what we love, and if someone is being a poser at it, then what the hell? hes only spreading the word about the sport even more... i dont want skiing to get like snowbaording, because we're different, and it should stay that way. however, we cant always be ripping on kids in our own sport because thats how something is gonna fail.

i thought i would get a lot more people disagreeing with me. im actually very suprised. this thread just goes to show you how much we actually care about our sport, its great. and whoever said that how exsisting skiers react to the growth will be what dictates our sport, makes a great point. we all just gotta show all skiers respect, even if they do dumb stuff like stand on the jumps or talk shit about other peoples tricks and gear. just be cool about everything and skiing will stay chill. i know that when i see some kids makin fun of anothers trick i always say something like, 'hey guys mabye hes just learnin, dont be so harsh.' and they usually come to their senses and back off and ive even see the kids that were rippin on somebody, helping that same kid later in the day. stuff like that is whats gonna keep our sport from becoming all about an image, and keep it about the soul, unity, and respect that it is for the most part today.

that sums it up perfectly, there is no way u just start skiing (or n e thing) and just start doing the most advanced tricks or whatever...when people start, they suck, its a known fact. just dont rip on people learning making the transition from crawling to walking becasue i am sure u are still doing it urself

i totally agree with just about everything said, at my mountain we all ski together, and the only people that makef un of the skiers are the snowboarders, because all the skiers basically ride together (it's great we get in like packs of 10 or 15 and all do laps together)....so skiing just rocks :)

whoever says that they will quit if skiing explodes and posers take it over, think about it. if all these posers start flocking to the hills, the worst they can do is make you look better.

this is a well put thread, i have to agree with waterville even though its a little off topic: the PSIA are a bunch of fucking retards, most of them suck ass and do it so they can ski for free. it would be cool if ski instructors were like the ones in france were these guys do it as a full time job and are actually good

didnt read any of this but i am gonna say how i feel like this. first of all skiing is fun that is why you ski and you shouldnt care about what other peoples reasone for skiing are or care about labeling them posers, but the thing about skiing getting bigger is that right now it is a pretty tight community, at a ski hill you just talk with anybody else who skis and it is normal and they will be nice, when in snowboarding, at least at my hills you dont really see that happen as much.it would suck if we lose that because of tons of new kids who stay in their little groups or something

if i were a ski instructor...i would get kids doing little jumps right away,i mean ill probably never be a pro..but maybe one of them will,and theyre certainly not going to get good and stick with the sport enough to go somewheres with it,even if they are annoying little shits they need a shove in the right direction

i always seem kinda connected to the other skiers in the park since theres so few. Its cool. If more people ski it probably won't be like that as much. It doesnt matter though. I ski for fun. And for going pro and making big money.

lots of good point, i like it very much. this is the way skiing needs to be. there has not been a single person throwin trash around yet and everybody is just bein real chill. if this same thread was about snowboarding, on a snowboarding website, forget about it. it woulda been terrible. just one of the many reasons skiing is so great :P
