ok what are the capabilities of the new snowmobiles for skiing and such like what kind of a pitch can you do and can you take a skier up in powder and stuff
 
Depends on tons of factors, track size, engine size, ride ability, how light the snow is, how deep it is, how long of a hill climb, what kind of obstacles in the way, what kind of in run. You have to be a little more specific.

But you're not going to ride tandem up a 45 degree slope, for 2000 vert, with 3 feet of fresh snow.
 
My experience with snowmobiles is you need a pretty sick sled in order to get anywhere, and you still can't get to the places you can get to by say bootpacking or skinning.

Rented some 550 CC's in Jackson, didn't really get us to where we wanted to go but it was still fun towing each other off cornices and stuff.
 
If you're renting and going by yourself I'd say its not worth it. Theres a pretty big learning curve, I think up there there is sledski tour companies go with them, much better idea.
 
i'm getting a snowmobile and i've never ridden one, have no idea what i'm doing, and this thing can go over 100mph. i'm gonna get fucked up.
 
tell me what you know about the 1993 polaris indy 650 and how much it would such for towing people up hills in deeper wet pow.

you will burn out the clutch the first time you try to tow anyone...maybe two up on a packed trail...thats it

i hate friends who ask me for tows....towing skiers sucks and is a waste of good sledding time
 
it might be the 600.

the 100mph sled is a different one.

i can get the indy 600* for dirt cheap, but i just need to get a track for it. honestly if i can tow a couple guys in some freshies at 15 mph i will be happy.

beats lift lines.
 
for pow....go with the 1000 or 800 Rev Summit like 163 or sumtin with 2.5 inch paddles...then if less pow any summit, for good trail...renegade skidoo because rides nice and can handle some deap stuff
 
go on ebay or craigslist

you can possibly get an 99 rmk 700 for 1500 or so...

but honestly...your not gonna do any towing on a sled of that caliber, fuck even my modded 2004 ski doo summit 800 with a 151 track (simmons skis, left hand throttle, pipes, extra wheel set etc...) does not tow people in powder....

Just go for the indy, wrench on the engine a little and have fun sledding around

You will quickly forget about skiing...plus snowmobiling in ski boots sucks
 
Its all about the rider, not the sled... I have a broke ass friend that still rides a 96 yamaha trail 550 and he is able to keep up with me (2001 yamaha mtn mx 800) and my roomate (2003 Ski Doo Summit 600)as long as its not more than waist deep. If you have the balls and the strength you can get almost anywhere on a sled. But seriously, any longtrack with 600cc's or more that is in good shape will get you to the goods alot easier and faster than any skins or snowshoes, and its a lot more fun!
