Does that mean you wear your uniform anywhere you go for "valor"?

Yeah I feel like this is an "Ask me about my uniform " statement. Or maybe somebody in line will buy me a sandwhich at subway type deal.

I mean, a huge percentage of people get into the military just so they can talk about it or hear "thank you for your service" 20 times a day.

Yeah Man , fuck the vets and service members! They just joined for those freebies!

Sure it's not politically correct and sounds shitty but this is litterally the reason why a lot of people join. Probably not for a free sandwhich but for the "respect".

That's a real thing. Sorry if that's somehow offensive.

No. I'd say that percentage is immeasurably tiny.

Fuck off. I think Dustin was wayyyy under on his numbers, but at least he came at me with that. I've had 5 plus of some of my best friends plus a few family members join and that was def a huge reason in most. Whether or not that "sounds" unpatriotic is irrelevant imo. If I think something is true I'll say it even if it's stupidly unpopular. I don't hate vets, so many of my friends have served. I respect it. At the same time if I feel something is legit I'll say it.

Get offended, call me a fuckwit, but it's still true. Sorry for speaking it. Peace...

Having grown up with family members who volunteered for ever war since WWI. Spending 8 years in the Army myself, and contracting alongside service members after that. I never once met a person whose reason for serving was to have the civilian populace suck them off. Or to thank them for their service. There is a lot easier ways to gain someones praise.

No doubt there are people out there who are professional veterans, but they are an extreme minority. Most of us just want to go on with our lives and assimilate back in to normal society.

Kudos to everyone in the military and thanks. I will say, yes there's a decent percentage of people who grow up in families who all served and where it's expected for them to join. That's great! Half my family was in the military too, but my parents never talked about it so I guess that's why I never thought too much into it. I have a medical exclusion anyway so couldn't join even if I tried.

I will also say that 90% of people I know from school who joined were either because they had no other future or wanted to be "badasses". Not joking here. Dead serious. This is the crowd I can't fucking stand. It's like the dudes who become cops because they realized high school football season is over for good. I will say though that these guys sometimes come out as better people than when they went in.

A lot of people also join because of the educational and experience opportunities it provides.... Not to mention some military careers can fully pay for your college. Many people will join because where else can you find and grow in a career that requires no college education.

The abortionator is right to some extent, so op don't get offended. He's not talking about you, and if you don't realize a decently large proportion of these people exist, then I'm sorry for you.

Considering you've never served I don't think you know why most of the service members joined.

Basic in what? What are your plans after basic? What's next?

^

After I complete tech school I'll be sent to a duty station. If I'm stationed overseas I'll be over there for 2-3 years and if I'm stationed stateside I can move stations roughly every 12 months as long as my supervisors approve.

This post pained me to read. I hope as you progress through your military career you come to realize how insignificant of an accomplishment basic training is. Like if this post doesn't haunt you in 3 years then you'll always be one of those, "well when I was at basic" guys and everyone fucking hates those guys.

This thread was kind of satire but also kinda serious if people actually did have have questions about basic. Probably should have specified that...

congrats, but best of luck to you out on the flight line. It's a different world out there man, and not gonna lie you're going to fucking hate life for a bit before you can learn to endure the suck. When in tech school, make sure you know how to read a T.O. them shits are going to run your life. Make the best out of Sheppard, its a shit hole but it's all what you make of it. Don't know if you're going for a rope, or if you're eligible for one but if you do, don't be an asshole and think it gives you power over others. When you get to your first duty station nobody will give two fucks about a rope and if you bring it up in the MX world, you will have a rough first few months. Again, congrats on graduating and shoot me a PM if you have any questions that has been in a hot minute and you don't want to bother your MTL. Welcome to the big blue, you're going to love it.

P.s. The Deli Planet outside the gate at Sheppard is the tits and if the waitress with purple hair is still working there from when I visited 7 months ago, she totally puts out and her head game is on point. Solid 7 at best though....
