Just got randomly drug tested

I did smoke some good indica this week and again about 2 weeks prior to that I also have been frequently using over the counter meds such as cough syrup, NyQuil, aspirin, etc.

should i I be concerned? Mind you i live in WA where it is legal both recreationally and medicinally. That doesn’t mean I Can’t lose my job but I feel like the employers should at least be understanding that I do smoke Occasionally in my free time.

Has anyone been in this kinda situation before?
 
The dollar store has drug tests, pick some up and see what they say so at least you know if your employer will get pissed. Why are they testing you? If its just a random test for insurance or whatever you might be ok However, if someone stole something and they have to test everyone as part of protocol you could be screwed.
 
Maybe depends on the job, I know in NH where its medical and decrim theres some places like car dealers who tell you they dont care about thc, did they send you to a place or give you a take home test?
 
How recent (number of days) in relation to your test did you smoke? What sort of test was it (blood, urine, hair)? How much on a weekly basis would you say you smoke? Do you just get buzzed or do you get baked out of your goddamn mind when you smoke? What was your method of ingestion (smoke, vape, eat, dab, etc)? Are you fat?

Tons of variables and then there's the unknown variable of individual metabolism speed, which you will never know unless you ingest a specific amount of thc and do blood and urine drug testing to determine your body's clearance of the drug.

THC is highly lipophilic and distributes widely into fat, even more with repetitive use. This is why the positive testing window ranges from a couple days to well over a month.

Best advice: look up your employer's drug policy. If they accept any federal funding, they must have a drug policy that bans anything on schedule I substance list. Some employers have a zero tolerance policy, while others offer assistance with rehab and second chances if you admit to your faults. As painful as it may be to stomach, if you have to fake like you have a THC addiction to keep your job, it may be worth it. If you test positive, tell them the truth that you used it x amount of days ago on your day off and didn't think it would be a problem since it's legal. Play dumb. Unless you got tested because of a workplace accident; then you're fucked.

I wouldn't worry about OTC meds. They're legal. The only issue would be if you took a bunch of ibuprofen, naproxen, or a PPI such as prilosec or nexium or protonix before your test. NSAIDs and PPIs can cause a false positive for THC. This is problematic because drug testing occurs in two phases: immunoassay and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) or liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). Almost everyone uses immunoassay because it is cheaper. This is good because it is less sensitive for positive. If it's negative, then you're good to go. If it's positive, then the sample is further analyzed with more sensitive methods to rule out false positives. The issue is that these secondary analysis methods are much more sensitive and may show positive in a sample that you might have shown negative in the immunoassay. Nothing would suck more than having motrin cause a false positive only to test positive for carboxy thc on secondary analysis.

Nah man, THC lingers in your fat cells for a long time, like 3-4 weeks, maybe itll be gone in a couple weeks if you're 1% body fat.
 
Depends on what and what ammounts they're testing for. For Vail in CO and CA I'd absolutely lose my job if I got drug tested and had smoked weed regardless of it being legal.

Some places aren't loking for weed or only looking for large amounts to see if you smoke regarly/recently.

Worth finding out what the drug test policy is and possibly having fake piss on hand just in case.

Where I'm at now everythings oral tests on the spot. I guess cops rock them as well.

Word, it’s not that I’m scared to lose this job because I do have other goals I wish to pursue in life but it would be pretty shitty because you know In the time I’ve been here I’ve built up something of a bond with my coworkers.

With that said though the job does have a high turnover rate I’ve managed to stay here for over a year. Yeah I made a mistake (if you could call it that) by smoking weed (this was 2 days before the test I’m definitely fucked)

I would expect as mentioned before that they would at least be understanding and meet me in the middle. Either put me on leave temporarily or slap me on the wrist and tell me that if it happens again they won’t be as leniant. However I do understand that if they Need to fire me (because the parent companies’ policies) than I am completely understanding of that and will readily take my leave of the company.

Btw the job is a utility job for a utility contractor company. Non Union surprisingly it’s not a sophisticated position but it’s definitely more sophisticated than my last job of driving a passenger bus.

Considering they bothered to random drug test they prolly care about weed. Sucks that it comes down to insurance and other shit sometimes. Imo an accurate test of weather you're high/drunk at wor, even just weed is fine buy its pretty whack to get fired for what you do in your free time. Most jobs dont pay nearly enough to have ti be a prude in the little time you have outside of there. They should start testing fat people for eating shitty foods etc if theyre gonna go that route.

Cool that it's not a job you loved but it's a shit situation. Places test if you're drunk but if they started testing like probation officers people would be pissed. Hope its less than 10 years before fed legal and we can step forward as a nation.

Drug prohibition is fucking dumb.

I live and work in WA myself and yes it is legal in the our states it is still federally illegal. Most employers are firing people with a hot test. BUT, there is a test to tell if you were high at that moment or have smoked in the past few days. They do have a Parts Per Million test(PPM) that is what they are using for people driving cars high and giving DUI’s. My employer is understand of this but not all are. Read your Policy and good luck homie, maybe have someone pee for you.
