My doctor just cleared me for my shoulder brake. So I was doing some tramping and now I am terrified of trying the tricks that seemed so simple during the winter. It was a long term injury, so is this normal? any tips on how to come back to normal?

Thanks,

Definitely normal.

I over shot a jump a few seasons ago and cracked my sternum. I'm still not back to my normal comfort level when hitting a new jump.

Obviously start small and work your way up with the tricks. Just remember that you could do them fine before and as long as you are confident, you will land them.

Hitting your back quite hard can put enough pressure on your ribs and sternum to do damage. There was a thread a while back that a few people posted in saying the same thing happened to them.

I'm recovering from a serious injury to my left hand. The scariest part about the whole thing is, my index finger has been amputated above the middle phalanx. And the fact their is a 75% chance i won't be-able to fully bend my middle and ring fingers properly, due to the severity of the damage sustained to the bones, muscle, nerves and tissue.

Think of your self been very luck that it's only a shoulder injury.

I landed on my shoulder after getting kicked off a dirt bike an broke my foot. Travelling shockwaves down the body. Phenomenon? Yes. Happens? Often.

Give it time. It's natural to feel a little skittish coming off an injury. I broke my neck and was almost paralyzed after overshooting in 2009, and it took me until about this year to start throwing all the same tricks with regular consistency. Some people are obviously quicker about getting back to their A-game but there is no need to rush it.

Definitely stay small until you feel like your ready. Also, you probably here this all the time, but especially when recovering from an injury, be sure to have a spotter. Just in case something does happen, I find it more comforting to know someone is there to help right away.

I tore my meniscus in January and because of my doctors misdiagnosing me, I can't get surgery until July 18th. I will definitely be in the same boat come winter

Let me tell you the meniscus apparently is very capable of healing well, and usually meniscus operations only set you out for a few weeks. Future looks bright if you rehab that shit up.

duh u got hurt, and will probably get hurt again. tone it down and age gracefully. nobody will actually care that you did some cool trick a few years from now. trust me.

Thanks man, I'm looking to get mine taken out this time. It's happened before and it was pretty easy but I tore it again. It's only the medial meniscus not lateral. The doctor says I should be good if we take it out after a few weeks, a month or two at most. I won't be able to hit huge jumps, but I live in Iowa so that's fine.

I tore my acl in december and got surgery in february. Im still rehabbing and its come a HUGE way, but I still wouldnt feel comfortable enough on it to ski yet. I guess Ill have to wait to winter still.

I tore my acl (apparently) in February and was jus diagnosed last week, and having surgery on Tuesday. That is gonna be a huge mental barrier to get over come winter when I am cleared to ski again

It's natural. Thankfully I haven't experienced broken bones or torn ligaments but if I did, I would totally be traumatized for some time. It's PTSD. your brain is telling you to not do it so you won't get hurt again. But oh well it's all part of the game yo

What the heck does cracking a sternum feel like? I'd imagine it's awful, but at the same time I recall gus k fracturing his in Xgames this year, and not even stopping skiing.

At the time, I thought I was fine and it didn't hurt more than any other part of my body which was just sore from the crash. I ended up skiing normally for the rest of the day. It was the following week that sucked because things like laughing or taking deep breaths hurt. Actions like shrugging on a coat caused a sharp pain in the sternum, but other than that it wasn't bad. It didn't effect my skiing at all so I can see why Gus was able to power through his injury.

I think breaking/fracturing your ribs or sternum is way less painful and debilitating then breaking an arm or leg. It was more of an inconvenience than a serious injury.

I heard a popping noise when I fell but just kept skiing. An hour later it started to hurt real bad to where I couldn't really lean over so I called for a ride.

I'm recovering from a serious full body injury. I fractured four vertebras in my neck C4-7, fractured my pelvis in 6 places, dislocated both of my legs backwards, knocked myself unconscious, tore my medial ligament, fractured my ankle, tore my shoulder amongst other things. When I woke from my induced coma I was paralysed from the waist down. There is a chance I will never regain full function in my left leg, am in constant pain and I will never regain full mobility in my neck, ankle/foot or shoulder. You're lucky you only damaged your hand.

Definitely a mind game- just try to eliminate all hesitation that you can and build your confidence up by working your way back up the tricks.
