Just got laid off

The boat i was working on that going to go to the caribean just laid me off. I guess the owners son wanted my job. I have now 15 day to find a ride before all the boats go down south fml. the upside is i might be going back to utah. Im just pissed because the guy convinced me to take a year off of school to do it with him.
 
This so much. Its ridiculous how people will lay off very qualified people just so they can hire their shitty ass nephew, son, daughter, _______(insert distant relative here) who proceeds to do a suck ass job.

+vibes man, I got laid off at a auto mechanics shop because the guys son decided to stop going to college and just work.
 
+K to everyone for making me feel better. the son doesnt know even how to sail or run the boat. that doesnt bother me as much as he came to me and said take a year off, come tohe caribean and work on my boat. Now im down a semester and have nothing to show for it

Na i never worked down there. i have 15 days to find a boat to work down there. due to insurance most boats leave rhode island oct 27
 
Ah alright I was a little misunderstood from the OP.

Thats just life giving you a punch in the gut. Everything seems to be going great then all of a sudden, the shit hits the fan. At least you can look forward to skiing the amazing utah snow man! You just gotta look forward always and look for new possibilities and take advantage of them when they come your way.

It sucks you got laid off, of course, but you say it's shit because he convinced you to take a year off. I think you should be thankful. Being a year off school is great.
 
did you give him an earful? convincing someone to take time off school to work, and then laying them off, is extremely selfish.

are you like doing the deckhand thing down there? my roomate just moved to Florida to train and then i guess he has to try and get placed on a yacht or something. Theyre all leaving in 15 days?

Dude took a year off of school in order to be employed on a boat and now is facing unemployment and all you do is come in the thread and try to insult him for being in a fraternity. That sucks, vibes! Luckily you are up here in New England where there are more jobs available than many places in this country. Hopefully you'll work this out. That really sucks though, good luck finding something.
 
I know your pain dude. Not to that extent, but I was offered a job sailing a boat around Australia. Would have been a dream. Couldn't take it because I was half way through a semester.
 
I was a lobsterman I will never fish again lol. I don't have the deck cert I need to work on a big boat unfortunately eventhough I have a lot of experience. I'm sort of a quasi captain I can run up to a 70 ft boat but haven't had time to get the license. Luckly my dad way into the sailing community so hopefully he can get me something. You don't happen to go to uvm?
 
| |. That's how much I care about your post. If you brag about getting an internship at Goldman Sachs then getting laid off from working on a lobster boat isn't the end of the world. And honestly, making a thread about essentially getting fired on the internet isn't going to change anything. "oh vibes man hope you get a job". This thread isn't going to help him find another job. People get laid off, it happens. He's most certainly not the only one and based off his prior posts it's not the end of the world for him, unlike what it is for a lot of people that rely on a job to support a family and survive.

Maybe it's MY poor reading skillz, but I don't think he got laid off from the lobster boat. There aren't plentiful lobsters in the tropics like there are on the East Coast.
 
I just looked up 'Swan 56' Like the OP said the boat was. Not a lobster boat, he just said he's worked on a lobster boat before.

We were going to the bitter end leaving from greenport. Ya clover was mostly owned my my dads buisness partner, he was so sad to see it go
 
I was looking for that. OP you're fine, there are plenty of jobs out there, especially for someone who supposedly got an internship and Goldman Sachs. It does suck missing out on a year of schooling, so for that I sympathize.
