Just fucked up my knee

I'm in the hospital right now. Doctor thinks I tore my acl and mcl but am waiting on X-ray results. There goes my ski season, I recently copped a pair of Salamon rocker 2s for this season but I'll probly sell them soon. Fuck ultimate frisbee my leg was planted hard and got hit from the side, bending it sideways. Earlier this week i had my last X-ray for my arm and the doctor said everything was healed. Fuck my life

Any similar stories?

Tldr I tore my acl and mcl

The same as any other sport. His leg was firmly planted, knee in place, and a guy knocked in to him causing his knee to go sideways farther than it should. Torn acl. Sometimes acl's are torn without any contact at all so it's not that shocking.

Hope you get better man, focus on rehab and other activities.

sorry to hear it brotha, i tore my acl n meniscus early season last year. Its a bummer, but on the bright side there are percs of getting hurt, if ya catch my drift. plus ya get to park in handicap spots (real dope if you live in the city because you get free curb parking) and ya might get some pity poon! plus, when you do get back on skis, you'll appreciate it 1000x times more. the struggles build character. for now, do everything you can to keep your mind off skiing, you'll be alright. be thankful you didn't tear your meniscus because you'd be in a locked brace for 8 weeks, which sucks dick because in that time your leg melts into a useless piece of shit that looks like you got transplanted from an extremely hairy and muscleless 5 year old girl. if you just tore ligaments, you'll be walking the day after surgery and don't have to deal with atrophy as much. best of luck

Yup that's what happened. I moved back to America, leaving all my friends and stuff behind, partly so I didn't have to do an extra year of high school, but mainly so I wouldn't be 4 hours away from the closest ski resort. Skiing has literally become my life, even my cp had to do with skiing, and I just finished 5 months of recovery for my broken arm. I can't get a green card I'm 17, and I don't get a handicap parking thing because I can't even drive legally in America. My social life revolved around sports because I don't really know anybody around here and now I don't even have that. /depressedrant

Sophomore yr of high school had to have surgery on my leg beginning of baseball season, sucked so bad, had a new bat and mitt, worst high school experience ever

Dude I feel so bad for you. Your young so you will recover well, but it sucks being hurt, especially something as critical as the knee. Best of luck bra.

i know that feel. i tore my rotator cuff/had a SLAP tear and got surgery but it ended my baseball career. you'll pull through though man that is a high recovery rate if you just stick to physical therapy and doing exercises on your own time to strengthen it

They always X-ray first to see if anything is broken, then the doctor came in and checked out my knee and was like yeah you tore your acl and mcl, by moving it around and stuff. The amount of slop in my knee was pretty incredulous

Thanks peeps

My doc explained this to me when I tore mine. Insurance companies won't approve a mri unless a xray has been done because the mri is rediculous I expensive. They want to avoid paying for a mri if the X-ray will show the problem

Also regarding what schmad said, you are it necessarily in a locked brace for 8 weeks if your meniscus is torn. If they stitch it back together that's true, but depending on the tear, sometimes it's better just to trim and remove part of it. They did this to me and I was walking without crutches and an unloved brace within two weeks of surgery (although I still had a massive limp). Good luck man, I'm three months out post op and it sucks but it gets better and you will be stronger at the end

broke my collar bone a week before i went to the white mountains and two weeks before i went to vermont, i waited all summer to go cliff jumping there and i couldnt i was so pissed couldnt even mtn bike or anything worst vacation ever

got my mom to drive me to my dealers house and give me $40 /claim

but actually that's pretty cool that he would do that

My only advice for anyone with a knee injury: there's zero reason to go to the hospital. (talking twisting falls and other classic ACL MOI's) They can't and won't do anything for you except give you pain meds (shitty ones) and give you xrays you don't need and send you on your way with a bill. You're much better off going home, RICE, advil, waiting 2-4 days for the swelling to go down and then heading to the doc. You won't be able to get a good MRI until the swelling goes down.

Obviously this doesn't apply for impact injuries (exploding a knee cap) or a true knee dislocation (not a kneecap dislocation). If you don't have circulation issues and can feel a strong pedal pulse, don't go to the ER. There's thousands of other knee injury advice/recovery posts on NS, but this isn't something I've seen said too often.

I was longboarding doing a slide and my leg slipped off causing my knee to bend up to my chest. I tore my acl and mcl, cut up a bunch of other ligaments and knocked my knee cap to the side of my knee. When I went to the ER a couple days after this happend they took an x-ray and saw this but also found tumor like things in my knees. The inside of my knee blead a lot so they had to suck it out and got 60mL and there still was more in there. 662123.jpeg

After this I got an MRI and found out the tumor like things were benine fibromas which cause lots of pain and can cause stress fractures. I have four 2cm by 5cm ones in my left leg and a couple 2cm by 3cm in my right leg. They don't do sugery to remove these so I have to live with them. I always why I couldn't even walk after a day of skiing. But back on topic it is a long slow recovery, definetly don't try and rush it because you will just screw it up more. I now can't bend my left knee more than 90 degrees and it hurts really bad to use. My tumor things won't go away till I stop growing and that isn't any time soon. But good luck with you knee man.

The fuck are you talking about, tearing a ligament is wayyyyy worse than tearing your meniscus, I tore mine, waited four months, played lacrosse all summer, went to a four day lacrosse camp, worked construction all summer then had surgery before school and could walk perfectly fine four days later. All they do is go in and cut it out. /rant

Just focus on rehab man, do everything the doctor's and your PT tells you to do and you'll come back stronger than ever.

damn that sucks.yeah i probly didnt have to go the er but my knee bent seriously sideways and made a loud popping noise.

thank god my dad works for boeing which gives us great insurance

depends on the type of meniscus tear you have, yours must have been pretty minor.mine was a bucket tear, that was basically folded over inside the knee. It blocked the knee from straightening, so when i tried to extend there was about 30 degrees left til the leg would have been fully extended. My leg was stuck in a bend. When they did surg they straightened it back, stitched it up and told me that it would take 8 weeks to heal and if you bend your leg its going to fuck it all up. So yes, while tearing your acl takes way longer to heal, if you have an acl tear it will be an easier recovery if you don't have to waste 8 weeks of not putting weight on your leg with a torn meniscus and allowing your quad, hammy, and calf to atrophy.

Just got back from the doctor a while ago, they don't know what's wrong yet but I'm going to PT for my right knee. Last season the pain was unbearable. Hopefully he can make it better.

Also, the PT that I'm going to used to work at the Olympic training center in Park City with skiers, so I'm good!
