Just figured out how aerials and newschool are different

the aerialists dont actually spin off the jump from what understand. Aerialist just throw a STRAIGHT backflip and once they start flipping they move their arms in order to INDUCE a spin because of the conservation of angular momentum. Same as when you have a gyroscope and try to turn it one way and it moves another way for some reason. They are backfliping so fast that it has alot of angular momentum so moving their arms in certain ways can get them to spin in a way. They can also do the same thing to stop themselves from spinning. That is why aerialists always seem to end their trick without spin.

Just watch the first jump in this video. He starts with only backflip, and then moves his arms to get some fake spin going.

So anyways I think dumont is nasty as anything, but his front flip to misty 7 is just a front flip aerial. He does a straight front flip and then starts himself spinning with his arms. Its cheap spin though, not real.

its at 125 in this video

So anyways i think Deschenaux was right about simons front flip misty, it really is an aerials trick which is kind of gay. Kangeroo flips are def not related to aerials i dont think.

i dont think they are because aerials means you only start off doing a backflip then you do something else but you dont spin off the jump, i think underflip you spin off the lip of the jump

do people do switch flat spins and switch rodeos and stuff? cause i was just thinking of ways skiing could progress and i realized i have never seen a switch flat or rodeo 5. so if people ahvent done those someone should!

I'm with slag. Aerial guys have hella talent and skill, incredible form, and balls as big as my head, but no style. If you wanna throw quad backflip 7's, be my guest, but your not gonna be able to cross your skis up and steeze it out.

not if there's a tail grab in them and if they are super slow. anything with style is not an aerial.

thats such a good point about simons flip i've never thought about it that way. my question now is can he throw it and do a grab without using his arms for gyroscopic rotation? when he figures that out and puts a sick grab in it should look sweet. personally i think he should skip the front flip and throw it more like a flattened flatspin to sideways misty 7 with some high mute grab.

other than that simon is the man. (sw 3 = steez)

and so is jossi and colby in that video.

off topic but you know what my fav trick out of the edit is? Jossi's barley corked 7 at 1:45, no grab but so smooth so effortless and so sick looking.

the difference between aerials and freestyle is that in freestyle you can do whatever the fuck you want if it looks cool and you throw a grab in there somewhere.

I've never seen an arielist front flip off the take off.. only back flips.

Does that really make simon's front flip misty 7 an ariel jump ???

it's a dope trick dude...serious.

No dude, simon's front flip FULL not misty 7, is a gymnastics trick. Gymnastics ---> Aerials.

If he kept his rotation going left on the full, then it would be a misty but he doesnt. He goes back the other way about half way through his spin.

i think its just a front flip version of an aerial. Aerialists dont do front flips, but simons trick doesnt start to spin until he has done full front flip, and aerialists usually dont start spinning until they have done at least one full backflip

its not that detailed. Basically newschoolers almost always have a horizontal rotation put into the take off.

aerialist Never have this.
