Just dont seem to care anymore

I used to come to this site religiously; in the morning to start my day, lunch breaks, and after dinner I would spend my time watching every edit, bumping all the good and down bumping the not so. I have spent the past 6 years deeply involved in the industry, yet now I just don't care anymore. Even the best cuts just dont seem to entertain me anymore. Is it because I have consumed so much that I have spoiled my own tastes?

maybe, but its just the same shit to me now. "Nobody cares that you ski bro, just get out and do it for yourself." Stop making edits for other people, stop selling out. Just ski.

I feel like social media and the consumerist industry has ruined what I used to hold most dear and im over it. None of it is cool anymore, its all played out and boring to me now.

Even the tightest shit, like the Bunch's new ish an all...just not into any of it. I need a break from it all. I think we all do

I know what you mean about the best edits not even entertaining you. I think a lot of us here have seen so many high quality edits that we've become desensitized to anything but the very best skiing. I've also noticed that I don't want to log onto ns when I'm injured in the middle of the winter...

I never really got into that stuff. Social media in general is just a waste of time in my opinion. It just doesn't really make sense to me. People didn't watch/make edits everyday 40 years ago (Besides the occasional ski movie)... so why should we now?

Lives are defined by experiences, not sitting by a computer watching those experiences.

Style, skiing, edits, etc. They all have a flavor. There are good flavors, bad flavors, and other flavors that can be good or bad depending on who you are. You just need to grow some tastebuds my friend.

People didnt watch or make edits 40 years ago because it was nearly impossible to do so.

I personally enjoy making edits and watching edits. Skiing to me is more than just a sport that I enjoy. Its an art.

its like, if a tree falls in the woods and the only people there to hear it are skiers, then does the tree actually make a sound?

Skiers love skiing and skiing is awesome to skiers when skiers watch skiing, then skiing is the best when you are thinking about skiing and when you ski you think about skiing.

Like any sport , meditation is the thing that keeps most of us invested in the activity. A chance to unplug from our daily lives and breathe again. But if we keep our head up our ski asses we are suffocating all the same. I have felt a serious lack of balance and I feel like the industry needs more balance too, or else I am afraid we will all drown ourselves in our own egos before anyone else can hear a tree falling in the woods .

We forget that skiing is a way to unplug, not plugin.

And this is why I enjoy a lot more skiing when Im alone and when there isnt many people in the park. = i can really ski 100% for myself. I think watching edits have a lot to do with it; it make me feel like the average level is actually what I see in those edits ... Maybe it is, maybe it isnt; but still it is not suppose to change anything in my skiing anyways; but it does.

Like you said; ego. We arent suppose to ski to be good, we are suppose to ski for fun 1st. Im working on it with myself, i guess im not the only one.

I used up to date on every edit, movie, comps, all the gear etc. then I blew my knee a few years ago and tried not to think about skiing for a while. now I still ski 6 days a week but I don't really give a shit about what everyone else is doing. I don't know how old you are but I felt that with age I also just stopped caring about whats going on with pros and companies and all that. I think it happens to most people.

I think another confounding factor for many of us is that we have fun by progressing. So when we aren't progressing we often get frustrated.

There is a difference though between progressing for yourself and want to get better so everyone see how good you are ... and this is where the spirit of it get lost !

Cause I sure agree it is nice to progress, but it have to be while having fun not just pushing yourself all the time.

wat

I blame the Gopro. Everyone and their cat has one and film everything and the amount of edits has increased exponentially since it came out. Flooding NS with edits and some are really good actually lots but to much good can be bad and equal a loss in interest as you and others are feeling. Just go Ski Pow with the homies and have a good time.

I enjoy skiing when theres alot of people in the park actually. I like when people see tricks and when I see people do tricks. Its part of the vibe of a park and I love when theres a good, friendly vibe where everyone wants to progress. maybe thats just me, but this season, im the only one in my crew that wants to ski park alot. I get unmotivated to try anything when im by myself and this whole season has been very underwhelming for me for tricks which im bummed about.

Yeah i feel you op my advice would be take a break maybe a few days maybe a month or two. Maybe from just ns or most social media and news. Then once you really crave skiing again watch a bunch of pump up edits and ingest nearly fatal amounts of caffeine and go shred with friends.

Not that my videos are that different but that's why I do what I do. Mostly just regular folks having fun. No music. Here's an example.

Man I think the key to keep stocked on skiing, is not to over do it.........

For example if you watch lots of pron you become desensitized, and slowly start having to look to more extreme things for new stimuli and therefor a rush of dopamine.

Same thing with skiing, if your constantly exposing yourself to banger edits and constantly jamming the songs from edits all day, you become bored and need more stimuli. Unfortunately though there is only so many edits within certain styles of skiing (thug, creative, etc.) Because of this you become bored of skiing much easier.

TLDR; Don't expose yourself to skiing related media all day and keep the stoke on

agreed, the best part of skiing is being able to go online and watch some new stuff and get hyped to earn new shit

SG is still a great place. NSG is kinda childish at times, but Ive had some great discussions there. The good threads are harder to come by, but when they do, my faith in NS is restored.
