Just breaking into the park this year! What tricks should I try first?

I'm a girl and I'm going to start trying to be cool this year and head to the park and kick it with the big guys... but seriously should I start with the kiddy jumps or boxes or rails? I'm kind of clueless and all tips are helpful.

Start small and work your way up. Start sliding small, low boxes straight and hitting small jumps straight. From there just work your way up. Also, get your fundamentals on lock first, cus that will make everything so much easier in the long run. And by fundamentals I mean proper technique for jumping rail sliding, looking over both shoulders skiing switch, spinning both ways, etc.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. Also, go off the jumps on the side of rails, they are really well made and generally are good for beginners.

we got a comedian in the thread...ignore all of them except jibjibstart with straight airing small jumps, goin straight onto boxes to get a feel, then maybe go sideways onto a box, then try a small 1, then a 3, and just keep progressing

you didnt mention this but. if you have just started skiing, work on that first. honestly you should be a very proficient normal skier before you ever venture into the park, youll appreciate it later on.

as for once you get into the park. start with the mini hits and small flat boxes, get comfortable sliding sideways, and landing switch off small things etc. 180s over rollers and small kickers and whatnot, progress to threes when you feel comfortable with 1's and stuff.

boxes and rails... whatever you feel comfortable with, once you get flat boxes/rails down pat, you can start trying all sorts of tricks on those, and learning how to just slide more technical features like urban style rails, c's etc.

still waiting for that pic from your other thread. I think most will be more inclined to help(if this is serious) with a pic.... just sayin

seriously, start with small jumps straight airing. small low boxes and rails. then do a few 180s and try your best to spin on an axis doing 360s and higher

hahah. i love how you start with..."im a girl.." haha and continue on to say your going to "try to be cool" so your going to try park skiing. and by big guys, do you mean us freeskiers are fat?? or your going to hang with all the pros to teach you how to ski. hahahah but anyway....sorry to hate so hard because i think its great to see another girl learning how to freestyle ski to get out tiny population up, but you should probably just try and word things differently so you don't sound like a complete idiot. my advice: listen to what jibjib said.

Well, i suggest you should tell us all what mountain your at first so you can get some first hand help thats specific to what your comfortable and having fun with.

tramping is definately helpful...but smaller jumps are def good to start as well...wen u get jumps down try a 1 and ya...boxes are easiest tostart on in my opinion as well.

Start rails and learn to ski switch, then progress into 180/360. Most importantly develop your own style in the park and don't just copy other people and to be honest just practice and let the style come to you. Watch other people in the park for trick ideas but dont except someone to just teach you because really you just gotta have guts and just try shit until you get it. Lol

thats totally not true. if i followed this rule i would not know anything.

just dont be an idiot. think everything through and see what you want to do in your head

you are my hero

on topic

just do alooooot of 3's

i can do them of nothing now

i would just do them of small jumps and take them bigger and bigger and maybe add a tailgrad or something

Ski with people who are better than you. It helps so much to have other people there to push you. And it's way more fun shreddin the park with your friends. Also, turn the whole mountain into your park too. When you're just skiing around, do lots of 180s and taps and stuff - it will help you get comfortable jumping around and riding switch much quicker.
