I have noticed that most/all true twin tips are more entre mounted than regular skis and have less sidecut which mean they have greater turning radisus and suck more outside of the park.

The more centre mount is ok because our sport needs innovation like that but why not add more side cut to make a truely more versatile ski. If twins performed all over the mtn i'm sure 'carving' skis would be non-existant because people will be more willing to ride a twin that performs just as well in the short/medium turns

eg: 175cm crossmax has a radius of 17m - while a 171cm 1080 has a radius of 19m. Thats two more meters for a shorter ski !! 171cm mike nicks have a 20m radius while the faction wednesday 178cm has a radius of 21m! try riding them though the bumps

now theres going to be many people who claim they can ride their twin just as well through short turns and bumps but i know less than half really can. I think companies should take advantage of technology and create a ski that is bomb-proof but also handles as well or if not better than an all-mtn ski. Its the only way twin tips are ever going to take off on a large scale.

Twintippers make up a very small segment of the market, everyone else is looking for performance out of the park. If you were going to fork out $800+ for a new set of skis would you go with a performance ski (crossmax) or a fat-twin that rides awesome switch but sucks big time through the bumps and in short/medium turns ... People generally ski on vacation and like it to be relaxing, they shouldnt have to fight through ever turn

Twintips really arent that bad all around, granted I wouldn't choose them as a mogul ski but I can still ski moguls with them. Plus when your in big wide open areas with powder my teneightys are the shit. If I oculd choose one pair of skis it would probably be a twin tip because they really are pretty versatile.

dude twin tip skis ARE more versatile then regular skis... plus fat twins are so much better for powder than 'carvers', especially for ppl skiing out west

I promoted my CVS and Stop and Shop card from the inside slits to the outside ones...my Blockbuster and gym ID got pissed off, but I told them, sorry guys, laminated plastics just can't cut it in the big leagues

you guys are missing my point. Duh no shit ... of course fat skis are better than carvers in powder. But i'm talking about all over the mtn, groomers, bumps, crud. Twin tips rocks but their performance in short/medium turns sucks in comparision to other skis.

more sidecut means the middle of the ski is skinnier which means less surface area for stability on rails, and skiers already have very little surface area on rails compared to snowboards

and nard how are twins more versatile than a more shaped ski ??(they suck through bumps and on short/medium turns, they require more skill and energy to ski at the same standard as carve skis) Sure they're better in pow because of the extra width but exactly how many of the world's population ride knee deep pow??

dont get me wrong i've been skiing for nearly 18 years and i'm definately a hard core twin tipper - but wouldnt it make more sense to make a twin thats easier to ski for everyone

seriously would you notice a difference between a 87mm waist ski and a 82mm waist ski on a double kinked rail??

i ride rails on both PRs and 1080s and you dont notice the extra 10mm waist difference

mid-fats are cool, but they suck uotside the park, make the whole ski a mid fat not just the waist

^ I do....usually the higher turning radius is on purpose to reduce hook-out.

better to burn out...

...then fade away

Sure you can, but why not do it very well everywhere with the aid of modern equipment?

better to burn out...

...then fade away

bumps suck...... and your a pussy if you need skis for each indavidual aspect... you can ski prohpets in bumps but your gonna need to be good to do it

^hahaa hoodratz is retarded

anyway, i think the reason companies dont do that is because having a center mounted ski reduces pressure on the back half of the ski, thus hindering turning and carving abilities. Therefore, it makes no sense to give center mounted twin tipped skis a true parabolic shape with the waist under the binding because it will still have inferior performance. To have the best performance from a ski, you have to have the bindings mounted a bit back from the center so you can apply proportionate pressure to the back and front in the turns. So in summary, while having a center mounted ski with with shorter turn radius would improve upon that ski, it would still not compare with skis that are mounted farther back from the center

I notice the extra width on rails, personally. But I wouldn't be averse to having a performance ski with a true twin tip. I think there may be a market for that, though I'm not sure if there is such a market YET.

crossmax's are sick skis but I've broken 3 pairs in the last 3 seasons in the park. The first two pairs were my shops so it was ok, but last winter I went to the park like 3 times and my third time out they snapped in half right down the middle I had to ride switch all the way to my car.

God is an American.

most twin tips arent aimed at groomers because those with powder want to ski it and those without spend most time in the park,in ontario i MIGHT spend 1/4 of the day on groomers
