Just a little visual shock for those who believe global warming is a joke

well i'm not denying the exsistence of global warming, but the earth has gone through periods of massive warming and cooling before.
 
It;s just a shame that the Great Lakes are a cesspool and very far from "Fresh" water.
 
global warming is true in the fact that yet the earth is getting warmer be it .5 a degree over 10 years big deal and temperatures have varyed over time like crazy this could just be another fluctuation mother nature is a powerful force just like humans and it has its own path and it can even touch pee pees or tits
 
Amercia is a continent, i beleive the country is called United States of America.Weather patterns often come from the Northern not real america aka Canada, thus influencing the weather that you do want.
 
this was at a time when there was a global cooling trend(40's-70's i think) just ask you parents and they will tell you about the feared "ice age" that was supposed to hit. so you can't take this peice of info too seriousley as the earth could have had a waaay warmer winter or spring.

anyways, it's just a cycle that the earth goes through, and right now i guess it's in a warming trend, then it will go to a cooling trend in 20 years. don't start stocking up on emergency reserves just yet!
 
Exactly. Its an El Nino year, so the Jet Stream, which usually pushes up through the Canadian border near the arctic circle, just flows pretty much straight across the US. This means it picks up no cold air from the Arctic and only moves warmer air from the Pacific. I don't doubt that there really is global warming to a degree, but even the shape of that curve suggests a relativley straight jet stream.

i met a guy in october who does not (I repeat - DOES NOT) believe in global warming.

This was the first encounter I had with a non-believer, ever. I didn't actually think these people existed, but there ya go. He is in his 4th year of university at UBC for geology and with all that expensive and lengthy education he has the balls to argue that global warming is not happening, and will not happen.

How can someone be so blind when all the facts are right in front of them?

right now the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is three times what it has ever been...EVER, for the past 6 ice ages.

if you think that's just nature taking course well you pretty wrong, and there is a lot of data linking population growth with increase in CO2 with increase in global tempurature. (in fifty years it is predited to be 5 times higher due to all the developing nations mostly)

in 2040 it is predicted that the north polar ice cap will be almost gone, makign sea level rise 20 feet, most coastal city will be under water of have floods. almost a quater of florida, and a lot of manhatan, (including ground zero) billions of people will have to be relocated.

actually if everyone drives hybrid or low emisions cars, uses public transportation more frequently, switches to clean energy, uses energy star appliances and energy saving light bulbs we can bring down the green house gases to a normal state. but the chance that enough people will actualyl care is slim to none, so you can say farewell to skiing in most places.
 
The cycles do exist, but they occur over thousands of years, we are not in a warming trend that is natural when over the last 60 years greenland was melted so much that in another 20 it will be gone. That is humans fucking nature's cycle

As it's been stated here, warming and cooling trends constantly take place in different places all over the world. Specific locations maintain an average temperature as been proven by numerous climate research studies, the most recent being in Canada's northern territories. Ice melts for 5 years, then it piles up for 5 years. Just as polar ice is receding in the North, Antarctica's ice sheet is growing. A one day snapshot of a warm front over north America hardly proves your point.

Be leary of who you get your "global warming" info from. Most people spouting off "day after tomorrow" theories like Al Gore are no more of a Climatologist than the local weatherman. A person calling themselves a "scientist" holds very little credablility if they are not an actual climatologist.

For your information the level of CO2 was millions of times higher during the last ice age.

Methane gas if anything is the biggest contributor to "global warming" right now, not CO2. The amount of methane being released into the atmosphere from decay in oceans and lakes from plankton and animal feces on dry land outweigh the amount of CO2 being released into the atmosphere thousands of ppm to one.
 
Sorry, but I live in Montana and I have experienced 1 dust storm and that was in december when a storm system was moving through. We got massive snow the next day.

And, while were on the subject of Montana, our warmest winter, and driest winters were in the 1920s and 1930s. You can get that information off of www.noaa.gov

We blame CO2 for global waarming because there is a DIRECT correlation between the global temperature average and the levels of CO2, not methane.

every single research done on global warming has concluded that 1. global warming exsists, 2. humans are the main cause of it. (about 1000 first one being back in the 50's i think)

"a greenhouse gas 20 times as potent as carbon dioxide, methane is being released intoe the atmosphere five times as fast as previously thought, accoring to findings from late 2006"

And as for the atmosphere having millions more parts per million CO2 during the ice age than right now, look it up in any grade school geology book. There was much much more CO2 because there were no where near as many plants, lichen, or plankton to convert it to Oxygen. It's really simple, or did you skip 8th grade science class when they taught CO2-O2 conversion?

Lastly, if you think that more CO2 is dumped into the atmosphere than methane than you really dont know how methane is released. " Methane emissions have three principal sources: prodcution and transportation of coal, natural gas, and oil; anerobic decompositon of municipal wast in ladfills; and raising livestock. smaller sources include combustion of fuossil fuels, rice culitivation, and industrial processes." -Energy Infomation Adminsitradtion Annual report on US emission of greenhouse gasses.

The claim you make about C02 levels in the ice age being higher than they are now is completely absurd. It has been proven by real scientists that during the last ice age C02 levels were at 190 ppm while it was at 290 ppm in 1900. Since then it has increased to 378 ppm in 2004. As you can see, c02 levels have gone up nearly as much in a century as they did over 21000 years. That sounds a bit rapid to be part of natural cycle. Also I got my info from a reliable source, san diego state university, unlike you who got it from jebediah reed, a man also known for other great pieces of scientific literature like "how scientists are invigorating the surfboard:.

from 1900 to 1959 it rose at a rate of .44 ppm per year

from 1959 to 2004 it rose 1.36 ppm per year.

This warming trend is similar to what happened between 900bc-1200ad...Fuck dude - england used to grow wine grapes in the 1300's - We are comming off of a mini-iceage 1400-1800ad - these trends come and go - Do we afect it? yes, but not as much as you think -
