Jupiter RIGHT NOW

If it is currently night time for you, i strongly recommend everybody go outside and look at Jupiter, at least if your into that kind of thing. Its a full moon tonight, so you wont be able to see a lot of other stars, and it will stick out like a sore thumb. Just look at the moon, then look diagonally down to the left a little bit, and it will be the second brightest thing in the sky. If you have a decent pair of binoculars or a telescope you will be able to see Jupiter's moons as well. It wont be this close again for another 70 years, so i everybody should definitely go take a look. Now get at it.

I can see it every night around 2am(utah) when i go to bed, its so fucking bright.

Yep. Its crazy. After tonight it will slowly start fading (i mean really slowly). Its at opposition right now as well, meaning directly opposite the sun (from our perspective). Neat little factoid right there.

my roommate and i just went out to see it.
holy fuck! i mean it just looks like a bright dot but that's pretty damn cool.

pretty sweet stuff. couldnt see the moons with my binos, really wish i had a scope right now

SICK! There's not a cloud in the sky down here and it's crystal clear....
I like how you can see mars a lot too..... but that's mad for jupiter!

it has a few more than that, over 60 moons I think. I can see 4 moons and make out the rings in the atmosphere with my telescope generally. so I really want to see what it's like now. too bad it's raining.

just checked, its true!

nice call on that one, its really sick, too many trees in the way though, gonna try and get out the scope in a few.

theres not a cloud in the sky where i live and the only two things you can see are the full moon and jupiter, it looks prety damn cool through burnocalurs too

Thats real cool, i took a few pictures and im not to great with photography but one of the shots came out really weird and looked like there were rings around it. Ill upload it tomorrow, could have just been some lens flare or something but it looked pretty cool

you sound smart, i wanted to be an astronomer once upon a time, ive watched all that BBC shit its so cool

Just went outside to see if it was a clear night and holy shit. Stared at it for like 10 minutes pondering the fact that I was staring at Jupiter, and how big and bright it is in the sky.
Thank you NS for enriching my life.

yeah whatever dude, i kid you not when i tell you that BBC did the exact same story and everything. its the exact same, just with a british accent, and im not claiming but i might have seen more documentaries on space than you have

Just longboarded around for like 10minutes and couldn't see it...or maybe I wasn't looking for the right thing...I'm in Montana btw.

i went outside to look at it, only to find myself staring at some other random star twinkling at me, thinking it was some sort of morse code. i tried to de-code it, and it just says jjwebbbareueqslwatchingawuwsfalyoujajs

wow my phone alerted me of this, but i wasn't sure...

too bad its hella cloudy here in boise
