Junior Analyst Salary Question

Hey guys,

I'm looking to for some info from anyone who may have experience in a junior analyst (general accountancy) position. I just finished my internship at the company where I work, and they've offered me a permanent position in a different department. Anyways, I was talking to by boss/VP and he told me to think over the weekend about the salary I'd like to have.

This is where my question is; does anyone know what a standard pay for a similar position may be? I know Ill be making considerably more than internship salary... but I really dont know what is appropriate to ask for. I dont want to seem ridiculous and ask for something stupid/extravagent, but at the same time I obviously want to get as much out of the position as possible. Anyways recommendations?

it's really hard to give you a figure without a little more info from ya. what industry is this company in, where are you located, is it a small, midsized, or fortune 500 company? do you have your Masters? If not, I would assume you also don't have your CPA.

On a side note, you may want to consider getting your Masters, or at least completing the 150 hr requirement to sit for the CPA as that is going to make you much more valuable as an employee, not to mention open up a lot more career opportunities for you.

from what i was always taught, always try to negotiate it, ask him what he thinks pay should be, because he probably has a set salary in his mind. If you ask for 45,000 or something, but in his mind he was ready to negotiate 55,000, he's gonna give it to you for what you asked and save himself $10,000/yr. conversely, sometimes, if you say you want 65,000 and he only wants to give 55,000, he may be like yea right no im not gonna pay you that, and might drop you, who knows. just something to think about i guess.
